Beka paces her room. She is careful to remain silent. No need for her parents to know she is awake, no need for them to know what she is about to do. What was she about to do? A million things whizzed through her chaotic brain, but there was really only one solid answer that she could get a firm grasp on. This isn't going to be a clean job. Someone will get hurt and in the end it would fall to her to clean it up, as usual. Beka picked up her trench coat and pulled it on over her form fitting crimson tank top and black shorts sitting down on her soft mattress she slipped her feet into her heavy boots. Crossing the room in two strides she leaned into her wall sized mirror. Her black tight curls hung to her waist causing her pale skin and sapphire eyes to stand out. She smiled at her ghost like reflection. She looked like one of them. Gingerly she lifted a glass vial from within her pocket and sprinkled some of the contents into her hand. Capping the bottle and stowing it away, careful not to spill what was in her hand, she used the concoction to mask her human scent. Now she even smelled like one of them.
It was easy to find the house. These blood demons had lived in the light for too long, they had forgotten why their leaders chose to remain in shadows in the first place. Beka cocked her head listening for Lacy, her partners, signal. To her right two twigs snapped exactly one minute from each other. It was a longer signal than others but the demons would be suspicious if it was something like whistles used on television. Slipping out of her shoes Beka slid forward through the damp grass, Lacy stalking just a few yards behind her. The light pouring from the glass house didn't do much for illuminating the shadows; then again demons also have night vision. As Beka neared the house a sound made her stop. She held her hand up to stop Lacy who huffed in protest. It came again, the distinct sound of children's laughter. Startled Beka rouse to her feet and stumbled forward. Inside a child climbed onto the back of a wolf flashing eerily white teeth as she grinned up at a young couple huddling on the couch. The girl looked only a year or two younger than Beka with long hair the color of wood and eyes a deep black. The boy's eyes were gold and watched the child like a hawk, and his dark copper hair was in a disheveled state. Beka stood transfixed on the blood demons.
"Why…." She whispered and the boys face looked up and his eyes locked with the crystal knife in Beka's hand. "It's not possible."
The male blood demon crashed through the window and wrapped a marble hand around Beka's throat. Pain surged through her as Lacy took hold of her leg and tugged sharply. Darkness hung at the edge of Beka's vision and slowly, like the curtains to a stage, it closed and she was unable to see. She heard a sharp whimper and a soft voice.
"Edward, oh my god Edward, she's human."
