"Near you're such a dork playing with toys! And you're how old?" The white haired boy was silent. He merely continued playing, stacking up plenty of black and white dice. His mission, or game, was to build Big Ben. The child hovering above him menacingly pushed the albino child. Near's dark eyes widened when his tower was kicked down. It seemed like slow motion the way the dice were falling. Clatter. Click. Near looked up at the boy standing above him. He was smirking on a power trip. The bully looked around the room eyes wandering over the numerous amounts of toys in Near's room. "So... what shall we play next?"

"Stop it Kevin." Near quietly spoke up. The kid spun around curious.

"Did you just tell me what to do?" Kevin grabbed Near by the front of the shirt. His dark brown eyes flickered with anger.

"Drop him."

Both Near and Kevin turned their heads toward the new voice though they knew very well who it was. Mello was standing in the doorway flanked by Matt. The redhead was standing in the hallway however keeping a watch for adults.

"...Mello..." Kevin whispered.

"Did you not hear me? I said drop him."

"Why do you care?! You hate this guy!" Kevin argued his grip tightening. Near squirmed only bringing the boy's attention back to him. Without a thought Kevin punched Near in the stomach. The white haired boy gasped, the wind knocked out of him. Mello irritated now, walked over to Kevin and punched him across the face. Kevin dropped Near and stumbled back. Matt hurried over to Near's side and dragged him away from the two now fighting in the midst of the small room. Near huddled into Matt's hug of concern watching the fight with a type of interest. He studied every move, every punch, down to every muscle twitch.

"Hey you okay?" Matt whispered his eyes on Mello, though he was speaking to Near.

A kick and tackle. Fighting turned to a gruesome wrestling match.

"Yes."

"Ow!"

"Call mercy!" Mello shoved the other kid's face into the floor. His fingers held a tight grip on Kevin's hair.

"No! I don't wanna!" A yank. A yelp of pain. "Fine! Mercy!" Mello got off. When Kevin stood Mello grabbed the boy and threw him into the wall. The blonde's forearm was pressed against Kevin's throat cutting off most of the oxygen supply to the kid's lungs. "What the heck..." He managed to breathe out.

"You touch Near again and I'll kill you. Got that?"

"Why do you ca-"

"Got that?" A weak nod. "Good. Get lost." Mello let the kid go and he scrambled off. Mello crossed his arms over his chest.

"Why did you save me?" Near questioned.

Nails dug into arm annoyed. Mello didn't really know why he had saved Near from getting pummeled. He made up an excuse. "It's my job to beat you up... mine and mine only... Let's go Matt..." The blonde stormed out, stepping on a lego man and breaking it as he did so. He cursed under his breath. "Matt! Let's go!" The redhead flashed Near a grin, a thumbs up, then ran off to catch up with Mello. Near crawled over and picked up the pieces of the brokedn lego man. He frowned, it had been one of his favorite ones, because it slightly resembled L. Despite that, Near smiled. Mello had saved him and all of his toys, except L lego of course, but that was put aside. Near scrambled to get the dice picked up, then once again he began to build. Big Ben would be finished, and it was thanks to Mello and Matt for so convienantly stepping in.
