Aw yeah, My first drabble! Well, it's a bit long to be a drabble, but you get the idea. Just something that occurred to me while watching when Morgana just left Merlin in the woods to die, instead of finishing him off then and there. Spoilers for 5x08 (or was it 9?)!
Morgana turned away from Merlin as he lay still at the bottom of the cliff, a satisfied sneer twisting her once-beautiful face.
They never understood, not really. All those who she used as her pawns, her minions. Agravaine, Mordred, even Morgause. None of them ever understood why Morgana chose to play the games she did, why she didn't simply strike without pretense and fell her prey.
Merlin began to choke behind her, and dark satisfaction fluttered in her twisted heart.
They never understood that, ultimately, it wasn't the traitors in Camelot's deaths she wanted most. That was more of a bonus, a preferable end to it all.
What she wanted more than their deaths, was their suffering.
No, they never understood, but that didn't matter. She would win, and they would suffer.
