Thursday
Kurunugi Suzaku fell in love on a Thursday.
Walking along the corridors after kendo practice, he stopped to watch the pep squad practice beside the soccer field. Thursdays meant that the sports clubs practiced outside. Ashford Academy was particularly famous for their pretty cheerleaders and impressive soccer team. He was admittedly more interested on the cheerleaders.
His eyes fell on a tallish pink-haired girl who was tossing a baton in the air. An appreciative gaze drank in the sight of her slim and supple body encased in a white shirt and a very short red skirt, long pink hair and sparkling blue eyes. He could hear her laughter and her voice as she talked to her friends.
He did not know that girl at all.
As a new student and transferee in Ashford Academy, he hadn't had the chance to socialize and mix with the others. He was easily singled out to try out for the kendo club so his days were taken up by practice. By then he dearly wanted to meet someone, anyone, to bring relief to take away the monotony of his supposedly happy student life.
The cheerleaders got into a new formation. They started to toss their batons into the air. He leaned on the wall to watch the girl who caught his eye. She was graceful with fluid movements. Her arms and legs were definitely strong because she was a cheerleader. (He knew that they trained rigorously so that their bodies could withstand intense physical work. It was their determination he admired and respected.) He suddenly wanted to know her better.
Suzaku's lips curved into a smile. He could imagine himself walking with her to school, holding hands and even eating lunch together. They could meet up for dates on weekends and call each other on their cell-phones. He wanted to be that guy who will protect her and cherish her for the treasure that she was.
It was a silly crush, of course, that formed when he saw her on the corridors on his first day. With her shining pink hair and mischievous blue eyes, she resembled a fairy. Her regal carriage and graceful walk made him think of princesses in gowns and crowns. When she walked past him, she smelled like roses and vanilla. He'd shaken his head to banish the spell of a silly crush but it was still a very powerful thing.
He was contemplating on how to approach her properly without scaring her away when he saw and heard something interesting.
One was when the baton dropped on her head.
Two was for the name the coach called out.
The young man couldn't help but laugh. His perfect girl, his fantasy princess and silly crush had a name. Suzaku tried it out hesitantly. It felt good to say it aloud.
Watching the coach help her to feet with a loving scolding, he couldn't help but laugh. She was totally apologetic with a shy, embarrassed smile. He was really reminded of a medieval princess. His heart fluttered.
Suzaku fell in love with Euphemia vi Britannia on a Thursday.
oOoOoOo
A/N: It's a slightly AU fic that's been kicking me on the shins. Euphie and Suzaku are just too cute to resist!
