A/N: Kala helps Akkik change his bandages. Short Akkala drabble. Akkik and Kala are characters in my friend, Ciloron's fic, Tides of Chaos. Interesting read.
Disclaimer: I do not own AtLA or Tides of Chaos
Kala kneeled on the cot behind Akkik who was seated on its edge, his tunic and robes removed to reveal the long scratches and bloody bandages on his back. He hissed as she carefully unwound the fabric from around his chest, the humid air stinging the slightly open wounds.
"I'll move quickly," Kala said, when she had finally freed him.
She grabbed the salves and lotions she had taken from the medical tent and began applying them, first disinfecting and numbing the area before using the salve that would help them heal.
"I should have been able to block the attack," he said, scolding himself for his inadequacy. "I shouldn't have let him get close enough to do this."
Kala leaned forward, her lips near his ear as her hands moved soothingly across his skin. "You could have lost your life had you not thought quickly. But you are a brave warrior and a great leader."
Akkik took a deep breath, trying to let her words sink in and drive away his self-doubt.
Soon, she finished, redressing his wounds with fresh bandages and picking up the salves and lotions. She came off the bed and move to stand in front of him between his open legs. "That should be alright until tomorrow," she said.
"Thank you," he said, taking both of her hands in his. "For everything."
She leaned down and gave him a short kiss. "It's my pleasure."
