Love or money? Such a simple question needs only a simple answer…right? To Rose this question summed up her whole life, and she could never have both. As a child she never realized all the lies hidden by her "good name," lies covered up by cotillions and polo matches…the life of a royal. On the outside she was everything a well brought up girl should be, but inside she was screaming.

Impulse, a word foreign to the Dewitt Buckaters, a word that was foreign until Rose stepped aboard the Titanic. Her answer was brought on by an impulse, but many great things are achieved by impulses…and Jack Dawson was one of them. The moment she returned his gaze as she stood on the 1st class deck, she had chosen love. But that was all in the past, and her promise was to move forward, never to dwell in what could have or should have been. Yes, he should have been alive, and yes if there were more lifeboats, he could have been. Jack Dawson had taught her better than to blame others, he had taught her to make each day count and so she would.

In her arms was her future, Amy Elizabeth Dawson's head rested against her mother's chest as she shut her eyes, closing them from all the evil in the world. It had been 4 years since she had lost her beloved, the sole meaning of her daughter's name. No, their daughter. She had no concrete memory of Jack, only his daughter that forever would bond her to icy Atlantic, where like so many others, Jack's grave remained. How could she go on without the man that set her free, the man that taught her to fly! The night she let go of his hand, she promised never to let go of their promise, never to let go of their undeniable love for each other.

Tears cascaded down her cheeks, as they did every time she remembered him. One hand went to her face as she brushed the tears aside, as the other absentmindedly ran through Amy's hair. She looked so much like her father, the beautiful blonde hair with blue eyes, eyes that could melt even the coldest iceberg. Her blue eyes, like Jack's, were full of acceptance and love for all of mankind. Rose knew that her daughter would never know of Jack, the man that changed their lives, but in her heart she knew he was out there somewhere with a pencil in hand, making each day count. "Come Josephine in my flying machine, up, up…" Those lyrics were still fresh in her mind and left her lips, as they sweetly filled in room. Slowly, she lowered her head to her shoulder and closed her eyes, dreaming of his arms and hands…just dreaming of him.

"Mommy, mommy," Amy shook her mother's shoulder. "Wake up, Mommy. I get my picture drawn today…remember!" Life filled the room every time Amy walked into it, she screamed of life, and for that sole reason was like her mother. Soon, Rose's eyes fluttered open and she was immediately greeted by a kiss on her check, still tear-stained from the night before.

"Good morning, baby. Why don't we get ready for today's adventures? What do you say about that doll?" Rose scooped up her daughter and twirled around, giggles erupting from them both. Today would be an adventure, but they did not know how much of one it would be. Love or money? She had chosen once, but what if she had to choose again, on that very day?
