I have decided to go in a re-write some of my old NCIS stories and see if I can make them better. This is the first story I ever wrote and published on Fanfiction.
Gibbs was lost without his wife and daughter, he wished every day for one more chance to hold his little girl. This story is from Kelly's POV. What if she never died? What if she ends up back at NCIS working for her father? Kate is still alive and this story is set around 2005. Also McGee had been working with NCIS longer than in the show.
No copyright Infringement intended. I don't own anything. All Characters from NCIS are owned by NCIS people. For entertainment only...
When I was 8 years old I was in a car accident that killed my mother. Our family van exploded in front of our house in Alexandria. When I was released from the hospital, the doctors told me my father had been killed overseas where he was serving our country with the United States Marine Core. I have never felt so alone in my entire life. My father was the most important person in my life, I was what you would call "daddy's little girl". Since I was only eight years old a social worker was sent to the hospital to take me to my new home. I lived in a girls home for a few months before as young couple saw me and decided to adopt me. After that I was known as Kelly Parker, my old life left behind. As far as I know everyone I used to know thinks I died along with my mother. I have no idea what became of my grandparents or friends. None of the officers or social workers or even my new family know the truth as to why I was found alive and not in the backseat of the van. The truth is I had forgotten my doll in the garden at the front of our home, mom had gone to the car to start it, that's when it happened the van exploded with my mom inside. The blast got to me throwing me into the side of the house knocking me out. I don't remember anything after that.
My new family is wonderful, they have spent so much time helping me cope with the loss of the only family I ever had. They have given me everything I ever needed growing up. My mom Claire is a museum curator at the Smithsonian which is why we moved to Washington DC four years ago. When she got the job I was a little hesitant to move back to the city I had lived in while growing up. I didn't know what to expect. Would I run into people I knew? Would I remember anything about the city? Would memories I have worked for years to hide come flooding back like a truck hitting me in the face? This was the job of a life time though and so we packed up our things from our home in Baltimore and made the move to DC. My dad Greyson is a special agent for the FBI. A job he has had for many years. He had been working in a field office in Baltimore and getting a transfer to DC was simple. He loves his job so much. Family means everything to me.
I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps and make him and this country proud. I know he would be happy with anything I did however my choice was clear. Today I start my new job with NCIS. Naval Criminal Investigative Services. I have put the past behind me. With all of the therapy I have been through in the past 13 years I have put all of my memories of the past into a locked section of my brain. All of my thoughts on the present and the future. With FLETC behind me all I can do is look forward.
Going through security was easy, I got my visitors pass and hopped on the elevator. I got off the elevator on the third floor and looked around for the director's office.
"Hi, can I help you" a man who looked to be in his 30's with light coppery hair and bright green eyes asked me almost immediately. His smile was one of those that you would find on a charming model who was trying to get in your pants.
"I am looking for the directors office." I told him. His smile widened a little.
"Oh right up those stairs and it's the last on the left." He said, his voice holding a cocky tone.
"Thank you sir" Came my reply.
"Please it's Tony." he replied charmingly.
"Tony." A woman's voice sounded in the background. Her voice held an accusatory tone with a hint of exasperation. Just then a woman walked over with a smirk plastered on her face. She's beautiful with a small round face, light skin and dark hair. Your typical girl next door. "Oh please Tony don't tell me you're hitting on this poor girl. Hi I'm Kate"
"Kelly Parker, and if he is he won't get very far." I replied with a smirk of my own plastered on my alabaster skin.
With that I walked off towards the director's office, climbing the stairs quickly. The receptionist led me through the door.
"Jenny shepard, you must be Kelly Parker. I have heard great things from your father."
"Yes." I blushed. "Thank you ma'am." I said standing in front of her desk.
"Here is your ID badge, keys to the car you will drive. I will take you to your team now and they will get you settled if you need anything or have any problems with your leader please come and see me, he doesn't take well to new people, but you should be fine, after the loss of McGee he is weary in adding another agent to the force. Mind you it has been 2 years now... Shall we" She explained. A slight ripple of fear ran down my spine.
"Yes, thank you for the heads up, Director." With that she took me down stairs. We entered the bullpen where Tony the horn dog and Kate the sweet lady were sitting working on their computers.
"DiNozzo, Todd, this is Kelly Parker she is your new team member, where is Jethro"
"Right here Jen, what do you need" a grey haired man said as he rounded the corner into the bullpen, a cup of coffee in his hand.
"Your new team member Jethro, this is Kelly Parker. Be nice Gibbs be nice." She walked off towards her office giving special agent Gibbs a look. He grinned at her and moved to sit at his own desk next to Agent Todd. I stood awkwardly in the middle of the bullpen waiting for instruction.
"Parker, your desk is there. Grab your gear we gotta body at Bethesda." Gibbs barked. I quickly walked to the empty desk next to Tony and put my bag down before grabbing the hat and jacket on the chair and following the others to the garage.
"Uh boss that's a hospital" Tony announced like it wasn't obvious.
"Way to point out the obvious Tony" Kate laughed. I smiled along at their banter as we walked. The fun banter continued in the car.
"Body was found in the wall in the morgue. Not in a door in case you're wondering DiNozzo." Gibbs snapped. He seems really snappy to me. I wonder what happened to him to make him this way. A tickling sensation at the back of my mind kept nagging at me, willing me to jump into my memories. I ignored it and kept going.

We spent three hours casing the crime scene. My first crime scene, pretty exciting, well not for the dead girl but for me it was the highlight of my week. I have been preparing for months for this. The drive back to HQ was tense as Gibbs sat stiff in the driver's seat speeding down the road.
"Tony, ID" Gibbs shot out as we re-entered the bullpen. The orange walls looked extra orange to me as I moved towards my desk.
"On it boss"
"Kate process the photos of the crime scene"
"On it"
"Parker take the evidence down to Abby's lab." he told me sharply.
"Okay" I replied gathering up the tubs of evidence and looking around.
"Elevator down to level B." Tony supplied helpfully.
I headed down to Abby's lab to give her the items we found in the wall were the victim was found. "Hi, Abby."
"Can I help you" a Goth looking woman said to me.
"Yes Agent Gibbs sent me here to give you the evidence from the Bethesda crime scene."
"Oh thank you. Who are you?" She asked.
"Special Agent Kelly Parker, I am Agent Gibbs new team member." I told her matter-of-factly. A sad look crossed her face before a mask of bubbly happiness took over.
"Oh, well Hi. So it's your first day huh"
"Yep. So is Gibbs easy to work for." I question her.
"For me ya, but it'll take a while for him to get used to you. He was really upset after we lost Tim, we all were." she told me. "He is typically hard on his agents it's why his agents are the best agents."
"Oh. So does he always call us by our last names or is it just me." I asked her. I have always preferred to be called Kelly."
"Well if he is mad he calls Tony and Kate by their last names but most of the time he just uses their first. It really depends. Umm you on the other hand will probably always be Parker." She told me.
"If I asked why would I be overstepping my newbie boundaries?" I asked her.
"Probably, your best bet would be to look it up on your computer, that way I can't get in trouble for saying anything. Oh and look up Tony and Kate as well to throw off suspicion." She laughed.
"Ok. Thank You Abby."
"Sure thing Kelly"

Upstairs Tony had finally found and ID on the dead girl found in the wall. While Kate had found a few interesting facts in the photos. "Her name is Private Irena Brinks, her post is at the hospital, she is a medical student who was last seen interning." He explained to the group as Gibbs stood staring at the flat screen.
"I found a mark in the wall where Brinks was found it seems to be made by a shovel. We found particles of wood most likely from the shovel on the floor, they are down with Abby." Kate told Gibbs "Ducky is still working on the Autopsy."
The team set off to work on finding out all the information for the case. While I sat at my desk and listened to everyone doing their jobs, taking in all the insides of this job, I also set forth on my quest to find out about my new team mates. I began with Kate. I learned that she is a catholic who used to protect the president. She was tracked by a terrorist named Ari Hasswari. Tony, worked as a Baltimore cop before arriving here at NCIS. He survived the plague a few years back and was part of the team to save Kate from said terrorist. He is also from a rich family but was cut off when he was fifteen years old. Now Gibbs. Ex-marine married four times divorced three. Gibbs, why does that name sound familiar to me? I dug through my mind to find the connection I so desperately needed. The tickling feeling was back in full force. I was a Gibbs. No it can't be my father died at war there is no way he could be here now. But he looks like him and sounds like him. Then I read, "Was badly injured at desert storm, family killed in car bombing. Daughter Kelly wife Shannon." Oh my god, he is my father. What to do. At least now I know why he won't call me Kelly, he has no idea that I am his daughter, he thinks I died in that bombing. How am I going to tell him? Perhaps I should talk to Abby about this or the Director. My mind was a whirl with information as the flood of my memories that I fought so hard to hide rushed back to the front of my mind.
I went back down to the lab to ask for Abby's advice. "Abby can I talk to you"
"Of course Kelly, what can I do for you?" She questioned.
"I umm I found out why Gibbs won't call me by my first name. Only I have a confession to make." I said, my voice tense. "I don't know what to do with this. It is going to change everything and oh my god I have to call my parents and tell them what I know." I rambled.
"What is it I promise I won't say anything." She said curiosity burning in her eyes.
"I am… My birth name is not Kelly Parker, I was adopted when I was 8 years old, my mom had died after our family vehicle exploded. And Abby I was told that my father died at war. Desert storm, when in actuality he was only injured. Abby I think Gibbs is my father, my name used to be Gibbs, until I was adopted. What am I going to do? I have no idea how to tell him. What should I do Abby?" I blurted out. I needed to know, I can no longer keep this information to myself. Her face took on a shocked expression as I blabbered on about what I found out. "I have been going to therapy since I was 9, I locked everything away in my mind. I didn't know when I first got here, when I met him. My god I am so screwed."
"Whoa... Wow umm well I think you should tell him, he has been sad over this for ever. He named a boat after you. I know he loves you so much even now. Keeping this to yourself is probably not best although I would wait until the case is over so this poor girl can get some justice. He blamed himself for yours and your mother's deaths. Go to him explain." Abby told me, her hands on my shoulders.
"Thank you Abby, your right that is exactly what I need to do." With that I turned around only to be face to face with Gibbs, shock written all over his face. "Gibbs" holy shit "how much did you hear?" I asked him. His own face was neutral as he stared right at me. Fear gripped my heart as I stood quietly waiting for him to respond.
"All of it... Abby what do you got?" He turned from me and looked to the monitor.
"Nothing yet, it takes time Gibbs, I will call Tony and Kate when I do get something. You and Kelly need to go to lunch to talk. Now go." Abby told him pushing us out of her lab.
"Alright." He looked over to me. "Let's go" he drove like a mad man to his destination which was an unknown place, well at least to me. I sat silently in the passenger seat, my hands wringing together nervously.
We pulled up to our old family home. I had no idea it was still in the family or still standing for that matter. I thought it blew up. "You still have this place." I asked him in slight shock.
"Yup. Fixed up the front of the place." He explained. He didn't move from his seat right away so I stayed as still as possible.
"Oh. I remember everything." I told him, blurting it out like I had been doing all day. "I put it all into the back of my mind to avoid thinking about it constantly. I remember the day I woke up and was told that you had died and that mom didn't make it. I cried for months after that. The Parkers helped me by sending me to different therapists, and just being there for me, they are very good parents. I always had everything I ever needed." I told him. I hope he understands. I didn't want him to feel bad but I always wanted him to know that I never wanted for anything.
Finally we left the car and entered the house which aside from all the photos and nick knacks it looked the same. The same TV, sofa, coffee table, and even the kitchen table was the same. We entered the basement where he was busy building a boat. It was pretty nice well so far. Without saying anything in response to me he walked over to me and pulled me into a tight hug. Silent tears ran down his face landing in my hair. I cried right along with him. When he pulled away he said "That's good kiddo, that's good. I am glad you had a good life after your mom." He said quietly, I almost didn't hear him. "What happened exactly I was told you were in that van with your mom."
"The neighbors saw me get in but not when I got out to get my doll that was in the garden, mom started the van just as I reached the gardens edge, the blast threw me into the side of the house. Next thing I knew I woke up in the hospital with a social worker who told me that you and mom were gone. Then a few months later the Parker family adopted me."
"You have been through so much. I am sorry you had to go through all of that. I should have tried to find you. I never should have listened to the doctors and the police who told me that you had died. I killed the bastard who planted the bomb in the van. I joined NCIS so I could track him down." he told me. I stepped back stunned. My father killed someone to avenge me. After getting over the initial shock of what he did and what led him to where he is now I joined him on the little bench that he uses when working on the boat.
I remember being little and using the bench to stand while sanding an edge. My dad was always behind me holding me steady so I didn't fall and get hurt.
We talked about our lives for a few hours when Tony called. They had a break in the case and we had to go arrest the suspect. I got to watch my dad in action something I always wanted to do as a little kid. By the end of the week we had become like father and daughter again. However we had to tell Tony and Kate since they were starting to suspect the wrong thing. Tony asked us if we were in a romantic relationship which caused me to burst into a fit of laughter. They were very happy for my dad when they finally did find out the truth. Director Shepard was nice enough to let me stay on his team, she knew all along somehow. She sensed it when we met that first day.
Life couldn't get any better, things were finally looking up. I had my dad back. I had great friends and a great job. I left my apartment and moved back into the house with my dad. We learned a year later that Tony and Kate had been keeping a romantic relationship from everyone. We were all so happy for them and couldn't wait for the upcoming wedding. That's a day in the life of our NCIS team.
