Chapter 5
Before I could even say anything to Matt, I heard something fall. I turned around to see Abby on the floor with the strange man in front of her. He turns to me, and puts his finger on my forehead. I fell and i guess i got knocked out. I didn't know what happened after that. In the background I heard someone else fall. I could hear foot steps. But from there, I stopped paying attention. I tried to get up and i did, but I couldn't open my eyes. Well, I could but something was on top of them. I reached and took off a scarf that someone had put on. It was so bright, it took a second for my eyes to adjust. Britney was there with a pissed off look. Abby and Matt was there too but more freaked out. I looked around the room which I guess was the bathroom and looked back at them. But something was different about them. That's when I realized, They got marked! They all had a sapphire crescent tattoo in the middle of there foreheads. It reminded me of a moon. I said,
"HOLY-"
"Don't even finish that sentence! It's bad enough I got marked. And with you guys." Britney interrupted She started pacing back and forth.I touched my forehead and it stung like a bitch!
"Oww! Why does it hurt.?"
"Our bodies getting used to it. It's not just a big change for yourself but also your body and brain." Abby said as she leaned against the sink.
"How does it affect your brain as well?" Britney asked as she stopped pacing.
"It affects the brain because it can sometimes cause mood swings, change of personality, craving, hallucination and muscle spasms. Sometimes they can be temporary, or they can be permanent." Abby said as she looked herself in the mirror, checking out the mark. It was silent for a minute when Matt spoke up, "How do you know so much about this?"
Abby became all serious looking and faced Matt. She looked like she was going to burst into tears. I didn't wanna see anybody cry, not even her. But sadly she did.
"I know about these kinds of things because my older brother got marked." She took a few steps toward Matt and next thing I know he had his arms over her shoulder, comforting her. I just looked away because first, I didn't want my friend going out with my brother. Second, I'm still haven't forgiven him. Matt used to...or still might be, a druggy. He always used to go out with his friends and do coke, marijuana, shrooms, everything you could think of, he did them. He mostly did these things just because he wanted to piss our mom off. Our dad left us when I was 5 and he was 6. It was a rough childhood because our mom was a drunk. So I always looked up at my brother. One night when we were all home, I was in the living room, Matt was in the kitchen and mom just came in from work. She would ask me if I had a good day and I always did. She went to the kitchen and next thing I knew she was yelling at Matt. Apparently she found a bag full of weed on the floor and accused Matt of it. He got upset, punched the wall, and left. Me and my mom followed him and...mom got hit by a passing car and died. Matt didn't come back until a week later, all high and drunk. When I told him what happened, it seemed like he didn't care. I blame him for our mom.
"It's going to be OK," I heard him say, " We all our going to be OK."
