A/N: Okay, here's a shortish Koumi one-shot. I've only ever written for Taiora before, so I'm not sure if it's as good. It was just something I needed to get out of the whirling ideas in my brain, before I forgot. I wrote it while listening to the song "This Time" by John Legend. You could listen to that while reading, if you like. 'Kay, please review!
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon, nor do I own the song mentioned above, "This Time" by John Legend.
"Please Mimi!"
"I won't slow down, Izzy!" she shouted over her shoulder.
"Please? Please stop running!"
"Why, so you can get angry and start yelling at me?"
I finally caught up with her, and grabbed her shoulders from behind. "I'm not mad," I said, once and for all.
Her tense body relaxed and her shoulders dropped. "You're not?" Mimi asked faintly.
"No," I replied, resting my chin on her shoulder. "You ought to have realized that. You know I can never be angry for long."
"Sorry. I just assumed…I mean, I deserve to be yelled at for breaking your computer before you had saved your essay, but that doesn't mean I like it. And when it was you at the door…"
"Don't worry about the computer. That happened yesterday," I said.
"So if you weren't mad about your computer, why did you appear at my door today?"
I had knocked on her door of her apartment today. When she opened it, her eyes had widened, and she dashed past me and onto the stairs. Running after her, I had followed Mimi all the way out of the building and through the streets.
"I came today because… well, I was hoping to get you back."
"You have me back," she answered, puzzled.
"That's not what I meant." I said, swallowing down my nerves.
"Oh…"
Mimi and I are eighteen now. Two years ago, when we were sixteen, we had dated. It went great. We were together for six months. But then things went downhill when I got accepted on scholarship into a private technological institute for gifted teens. Mimi and I just couldn't seem to keep contact. We drifted apart, and the relationship ended without either one of us having declared it so.
We didn't talk. We weren't even friends anymore. We didn't relate with one another until a month before the present. We had run into each other in a grocery store, and suddenly became best friends. But seeing her again had triggered feelings that had been pushed down in the past. She was my best friend Mimi, but I wanted to change that. I needed her to be mine again.
So there I was. We were on a random street in town. I was facing Mimi now.
I understood what she meant by saying that 'I had her back' already. She meant we had become friends again.
"Oh…" said. Her mouth was open just a little bit and her eyes were hazy. She was spacing out a bit.
"I need you," I said, feeling desperate and pathetic. "I'm more mature now!"
She snapped back to reality and gave a light laugh that contained no actual amusement or humor. "I don't think that's possible. Your maturity was never the problem, Izzy. You were as mature as was possible."
"What can I do…?" I trailed off.
"The only thing you need to do, Izzy, is kiss me."
I smiled in relief. "Good."
With that, I leaned in and did as Mimi wished.
A/N: Okay, sucky ending, I know. But please do REVIEW! I love it when people do that. Thanks for reading!
