Time stopped. The world was immovably slow, unrealistically even. My fingers shot up to cover my face as the glass shattered. The shards flew toward me, aggressively attacking against my fingers, impact stunning me into silence, but then I heard it.
The sound was deafening, a groan of car breaks and squeak of the horn all at the same time.
More importantly, it was hurdling toward me with uncomprehendable speeds.
I spun, facing the huge black metal mass with a stunned gasp. There was no time to move. There was no time to think.
Instead, there were flashes of faces, voices. Robert's green eyes, Lacey's brilliant laughter, Jamie's smile, mom's voice and dad's handshake.
I could feel the impact before it actually hit me, the momentum hitting him with an unimaginable force. It knocked the breath from my lungs, but I was frozen, staring forward at the belly of the beast about to shatter my body across the road. I'd be in shambles in less than five seconds, but time stood almost still.
Then I felt it. His hands grabbed my waist, gripping me and jerking my body from the road. I couldn't see his face, instead my face was pressed into his hard chest covered in only a thin black t-shirt and I could feel heat emitting through his shirt. He smelled of woods and outside and air and something else I couldn't quite identify, something that must uniquely be him.
That was the last thing that crossed my mind before I blacked out.
