The following story is a [FAN-FICTION]! All Far Cry series are all owned by Ubisoft. Please support the official release.
Before we get started. This is my first Far Cry story I've ever done and this will not have connections between any previous Far Cry games. But this one will be entirely different. I was wondering of which settings if Far Cry would take place. So, I chose the island of Tsushima in Japan. It's a exotic place with lush forests, nature, rivers, and many more you can imagine. Will explain more at the end of the story through Author's Notes. So please enjoy.
This story is a work of fiction. Similarities between characters or events to persons living or dead are purely coincidental.
Far Cry VI: SHOGUN
Chapter 1: Arrival
"My dear brother… I ask of you. This will become my last request. Take my necklace. Take me back… to Tsushima…" - Rise Sakamoto
-[YEAR 2019]-
-[TSUSHIMA, JAPAN]-
4/1/2019 Tsushima, Japan Early Morning - Clear Sky
Third Person POV
"In the wake the recent news. The government official has announced that traveling to Tsushima is banned due to the current situation. The Prime Minister has stated that they will not reveal information regarding about-" The radio cuts out as the man turned off the radio. However, he was sitting on the large boat carrying few of the people as he looked at the ocean sea.
"[So, I guess you heard about that situation? Things are not going well there at this island.]" The man said in Japanese as he continued. "[Now. Passport?]"
The young man handed him his passport as he took and looked at it.
"[Alright… Hmm, I see… Your name is Travis Sakamoto, American-Japanese… That's interesting. Why have you come to Tsushima?]" The man asked as Travis takes his passport back.
"[Well, To move away from US. I feel like I want to start a new life. I mean, it's much better to start a new one, right?]" Travis said to him in Japanese.
"[It maybe your opinion. It's best to keep it to yourself. Anyways, we're almost arriving to the island. Things are… changing around there. It's not that good.]" The man said to him as Travis was a little confused.
"[Huh? How so?]" Travis asked him.
"[There's something you don't want to get involved. Do you see from far away? Those are mens in armor and weapons. Those two are still guarding the docks here. Whatever you do. Do not make any move if you fight against them.]" The man said as Travis grabs out the necklace of his sister that has a sapphire gem on it. So, Travis wore it over his neck as the boat slowly arrives as it was parked near the docks.
"[You there. Line up. It is time for inspection.]" One of the armed soldiers approaches the man as the second soldier arrives to back him up.
"[Y-Yes sir.]" The man stood there with his arms spread out. After checking through his body of arms and legs…
"[You're good to go. Stop standing around.]" The second soldier said to him as the armed man looked at Travis. "[You. Next.]"
Travis didn't want to speak but he had to do it. He stood up and got off the boat as he approached to the two. But, when the second soldier was ready to inspect him until the first soldier stopped him.
"[Wait… Don't inspect him… We need him.]" The first soldier said to the second who was confused for no reason.
"[What? Why? How would you know?]" The second soldier replied.
"[The boss needs him. He's been waiting for this. Remember what he says, we still need him.]" The first soldier said to his partner. "[You there, come with us. The boss has been waiting for you. We'll skip your inspection today.]"
Then, the second soldier punched his stomach as he kneeled on the ground as the first soldier carried Travis as the people on the boat and the man stood there and did nothing. Travis' vision was soon going to become pitch black. But, all he could hear is the sounds of his body being thrown into the truck as it drove off…
-[FRENCH VIDEO GAME STUDIO BASED IN MONTREAL PRESENTS…]-
Travis starts to slowly regain his vision as he looks around to see his body but his hands on the back, tied up. His body was still laying in the backseat as he looked at the window of the blue skies as the vehicle passes through the shades with trees with a small bit of sunshine as his eyes slowly closes…
-[A STORY WRITTEN BY SOMEONE WHO WRITES STORIES…]-
He slowly opens his eyes again to see his body being dragged behind by the two soldiers who were holding his arms. But, it was untied for a reason. He slowly looks around to see armed soldiers who were seen patrolling around a feudal japanese-like building. But, his eyes slowly closes as he could hear soldiers yelling and talking. But, the voices becomes sunken as his mind blacked out…
-[FAR CRY VI: SHOGUN]-
Travis starts to slowly opens his eyes. As he hears the sound of chains and the slow wind blowing to his face. His side of the head was sleeping on the cold, smooth concrete floor. He slowly regains his vision as his head hurts a little.
"Hey… About time you woke up…" The voice of a young, cool man spoke to him in his late 30s. Travis noticed as he looks at the man wearing a samurai armor mixed with a modern military combat vest. But, he had no helmet but his brown hair. "I've been sitting my ass for minutes straight and here you are. You have woken up."
"Uggh… Wait… you can speak English, too?" Travis asked him curiously.
"Well… yeah, I know who you are. And I know why you're here, Travis Sakamoto." The man said his name. Travis doesn't know why of who is he. So, he continued to stay silent. "When I heard about your arrival, it was my chance that I would get to see you. Plus, I even know your dead sister. Oh, it's such a shame. Look around you, this isn't the Tsushima you know. Allow me to introduce myself… My name, is Daichi Futoshi. The new shogunate of Tsushima. And this is my attendant, Miro Kohaku. She's a serious girl a serious young person."
"Okay?" Travis was confused.
"Now then, I'm sorry that my men had to throw you into this… dungeon cell instead of bring you to me. But, I guess that'll work. However, I'm a busy man. Though, I can give you a offer to join my army. First… I need to do something. Miro, we need to talk… It's those damn terrorists..." Daichi and Miro leaves the scene as Travis was left alone here in his cell. He had his legs cross as he was still sitting on the floor…
"Hey… you there. You're Travis Sakamoto, right? I knew they had to throw you in here just like me." The voice of a female spoke as she comes out of the shadow from her cell as she placed both of her hands to the bars.
"And… who are you?" Tavis asked her. Her appearance is a young teenage girl with brown eyes and short orange hair. She has two long locks of hair, one which she usually styles into a braid. But, she was wearing a white, blank kimono. Knowing that her clothing was taken away.
"The names Mizuka Shindou. I came to this island and captured me just like you. Hell, that man Daichi is trying to recruit me. He thinks I'm extremely skilled with the sword. Which is true… We don't have much time. You and I need to get out of here. Though, you maybe didn't noticed that the cell door is unlocked the whole time. Heh, he must have forget. But don't leave without me, you need to free me out of there. You scratch my back, and I scratch yours." Mizuka said to him as he slowly opens his cell door and approaches to her.
"Right, but where and I find the key to get you out of here?" Travis asked her as she points it to her right.
"Go down there, the guard usually patrols around the area. He may be sleeping right now since this is morning. I think you should sneak up to him with no problem. If he's awake, knock him out. So get out there. I'll wait or you once you get it." Mizuka said as she heads back into the shadows to wait for him and the key.
Travis knew he's going to risk it but there was no choice. He decided to sneak down the path in order to find the key for free Mizuka. He quietly runs down the hallway of empty cells as he encounters a wall with a splitting path. He took the left and opened the door to find the office where the guard without the helmet who was seen sleeping. Travis looked around his surroundings and grabbed the glass bottle. Just as he got close enough, he swung down the bottle to the head of the guard. Then, he quickly took the keys and headed out the office. He silently ran back to the area where he first met Mizuka. Just as he arrives, he got close to her cell as Mizuki comes out of the shadows again.
"So, you got the key?" Mizuka asked him.
"Yeah, I did. Stand back while unlock this cell." Travis said as he proceeds to unlock it. After that, he steps away as Mizuka opens the door and looked at him.
"I owe you one. But we don't have much time, just make sure you follow me." Mizuka placed her index finger to her lips as a gesture to remain quiet.
The two silently makes their exit from the underground cellular as Mizuka quietly talks while heading upstairs and to the room.
"Those bastard took my sword when I was captured. Do you see it over here? This guy is kneeling just to pray. Let me handle this." Mizuka said to him as she stealths close to the person and grapples the unarmored soldier's neck with her legs as she snaps it. After that, she takes her sword as Travis got close to her. "There, that should deal with this guy."
Suddenly, both hear gunshots near by in this quiet room. However, they're in was a dojo room that had the underground cellular connected to it.
"There's no time… We have to leave. Now." Mizuka told him as Travis nodded and headed to the door as he slides open until…
"Stop!" The voice of a young man held gunpoint to his head. But, he lowered his weapon. "Wait, you're not one of those Shogunate's Soldiers… We're you captured?"
Bandana-wearing person: "We're outnumbered! We have to retreat!-"
But, the man was shot multiple times as the young man sighed and looked at the two.
"There's no time, we have to hurry. Take the vehicle there. My men will take you back to a town far away. I'll see you there." The young man pats on Travis' shoulder two times as he makes his leave.
"You know what to do. We have to hurry. If we stand here, you know what happens… so let's go!" Mizuka makes her run as Travis follows her fast as he can…
Soldier 1: "[Hey! They're getting away! Shoot them!]
Soldier 2: "[Wait! They escaped from their cells!]"
"I guess we're in trouble now! I'm going to regret this!" Travis yelled as the two reached to the truck where the soldier that isn't one of Daichi's men who was waiting for those two.
"Two of you! Get in here! There's no time to explain!" The driver said as the two got on the truck as it drives off. "Lady Luck saved the stars, y'know? It'd be a shame if you died right from the start. I'm glad you two made it."
"Well, thanks. Where are you taking us?" Travis said to him.
"I'll tell you later. But first, these Shogunate Soldiers are after us! Shake them off! Here, grab my pistol and shoot them away!" The driver handed him a gun as Travis took it. He peeked out of the window to find three Shogunate soldiers on the quad as they followed in pursuit. They were firing a spray of bullets from their SMG. However, Travis returned fire and shot down one of the soldiers as the quad spun out of control and hits the slope and fell. "Good! Keep firing!"
"I'm trying! I can't get a good shot!" Travis yelled as Mizuka was holding on. "Just how dangerous are they!?"
"I have no idea! Just keep attacking! Hey, Driver! How far are we from escaping!" Mizuka asked him as he explain.
"Don't worry! Our men is planning to do a ambush by road blocking! It's a huge time saver so believe in me!" The driver replied to her as the Shogunate soldiers continued to fire at the truck as it was somewhat filled with holes. After a minutes of survival, a call inside the truck was made.
Rebel Soldier: "We see you! Drive through us and we'll create a roadblock for your escape! You better come back home!"
"You got it! Hang on tight, you two! We're about to make a escape!" The driver said to the two as he stepped on the pedal to accelerate faster as Travis hung on while trying to get a better aim. However, just as the Driver continued down the road where the two other heavy vehicles in between were waiting for the driver to pass. Then, just as the Driver passed it. Both heavy vehicles closed in as the groups ended up crashing each other. "Yeah! Take that you Shogun bastards!"
Travis and Mizuka were surprised with a look on their faces. Travis goes back in the truck and looked at him.
"Say, where are we headed?" Travis asked him as the Driver asked.
"We're taking you two to the town so you can meet up with our Resistance Leader. He's one, calm, son of a bitch if you ask me. His name is Arato Shimada, he's been fighting against Shogunate's forces for a few months now. What's worse, the tyrannical bastard has started a violent takeover on this island since you've escaped his clutches or what not. Things are not looking good to be honest." The Driver told him of what's happening. Now the the Shogunate has begun his action. Both Travis and Mizuka are left no choice but to head to the town occupied by the rebels. However, things go sudden… "Wait… Oh shit! We've been baited! This road's a trap! Brace for im-"
However, the Royal Army's truck rams into the vehicle and ended up killing the driver. Both Travis and Mizuka survived from it but ended up passing out… After a few minutes of passing out… both of them opens their eyes slowly after the impact. The group of Royal Army's soldiers were seen holding the two captive. Mizuka tries to break free but the soldier held her tightly to not let go.
Royal Soldier 1: "Easy there, lass! Don't think about escaping now!"
"Hands off of me, you cur! Bastard like you should stay dead!" Mizuka angered as she struggled to break free.
Royal Soldier 2: "Hey, Lieutenant. What should we do about those young troublemakers?"
Then suddenly, the Lieutenant arrives, wearing a full body armor, shin guards, and a red/black camo combat uniform but the helmet covered his face as he was holding a pistol on his right hand.
Royal Lieutenant: "We'll start with this boy first… We need him back since the Shogunate needs him. Oh wait… perhaps we should kill him, anyways."
The Lieutenant raised his pistol to his face close up. Fow a few seconds that everyone stopped and listened… Everyone heard the sound of the plane's engine. Travis looked up into the sky to see two helicopters surrounding the area that they're in… Suddenly, a flurry of bullets rained down from the sky and annihilated the first helicopter. Travis noticed to see a familiar heavy fighter aircraft from the World War II. But, it was a twin tailed heavy fighter with two boom engines with the propellers whirling. Wondering that the pilot inside the fighter was intentionally helping him and Mizuka. But the explosion caused everyone to cover from the blast as the heavy fighter climbs back up while leaving white smoke on contrails in the sky.
Royal Lieutenant: "The hell!? A P-38 Lightning! Helicopter units! Shoot down this pilot!"
But, all royal soldiers were still distracted as Mizuka broke free as Travis did the same as they made a run for it.
Royal Lieutenant: "Shit! They're getting away-"
The sounds of bullets was coming from the other side as the rebel soldiers arrived in time to fight off the Royal Army. Allowing the two to escape inside the forest as they slided down the slope of the ground. They continued running down into the forest in the lush, beautiful nature. For a few minutes later, the sound of bullets can still be heard as Travis and Mizuka crossed the river that is not deep but it only sank half of their foot as they continued on walking…
"So, Travis. Do you understand the situation?" Mizuka asked him.
"Well… Yeah? I mean, they tried to kill us. They're insane!" Travis complained a bit as he sighed as he looked up at the blue sky with forest trees everywhere. "What does Daichi even know my older sister…"
"Hmm? Your older sister… I think Daichi mentioned it before. What happened to her?" Mizuka asked.
"She… She passed away…" Travis replied to her as she was shocked of that moment.
"I-I see… I'm sorry for your loss…" Mizuka lowered her head down as Travis shook his head.
"Don't be. The reason why I came back to Tsushima is to deliver my older sister's necklace back to the shrine… So that she could rest peacefully. Plus, since you mentioned yourself before… Why come to this is island when it's full of insane people?" Travis asked her as she thinked a bit.
"Well, I came to investigate of what's going on. Then, you know the whole story. Looks like the Shogunate is not happy with us. Plus, I'm sure you're new to this situation. Again, this is not the Tsushima you know… it's a goddamn warzone between so-called 'Lords' taking other lands that are owned by Lords in hopes to take down the current Shogunate to take over his place." Mizuka continued. "And now, with that happening as well… I believe the Lords are staging a violent takeover on the remaining lands left for themselves."
"Wait, what do you mean by Lords?" Travis asked her question as she looked straight to his face.
"It's the reignition of the Warring States, Travis!" Mizuka continued "It's not the country… but the island itself. Lords are still fighting each other for it and it's still going on perhaps. There's no time left… We need to reach the town that is rebel property. It shouldn't be that long if you want to run. From now on, I'll assist as much as possible. If you want to have your older sister rest in peace… you have to survive, got that?"
"Y-Yeah… Let's go, Mizuka-san. We can't stay there forever if they'll capture or kill us again." Travis said to her as she nods in reply. The two were about to set off until both heard the shotgun after it was cocked as the shell fell into the river stream. "Huh?!"
"Hold it…" The man with a green camo jacket said as he held an american shotgun with his finger on the trigger ready. "You're no Royal Army or those Psychos running amok like deadbeats… Why are you here in my camping ground?"
"Look, we're running away from those guys after they were trying to held us captive. I just don't understand of what's going on! Can you explain!?" Travis said in his panicked look on his face. The man continued to aim his shotgun to his sights. For a few seconds, the man looked at his innocence in his face. He sighs and lowers his weapon down.
"Heh… Seriously… I was checking you two to see if you're one of those bastards. If you're still looking for you, come with me. I know where exactly you can hide away from those assholes.
[-Cave (Base of Operations)-]
Ten minutes has passed after a long walk in the lush forest. They come across at the cave, fortified with panels from wood and metal. The man approached to the table with the whole map of Tsushima but with colored lined out as areas until he grabbed out his knife and stabs the table as he leaves it there.
"Nice place… maybe make it something better…" Mizuka bluntly said as the man ignored her.
"You know… you two surely kicked the hornet's nest and look what it resulted." The man continues. It's a goddamn mess if you ask me. Lords from many regions are starting to take action because of you. Not her. Just… you."
"Why me?" Travis asked him as the man looked at him and points at Travis directly.
"You're the source of this mess. Civilians living on this land are having terrible lives with things going on. Thinking it's the re-ignition way back in the history known as the Warring States. Now then… Let's see if the two of you and I can reverse this situation. The names Kozuki Masayoshi, I'm the leader of the Resistance. The city you're trying to head to? It's been taken over by the Royal Army. Half of my Rebellion forces are still fighting them back and I haven't heard of their response since. I took part in the Gulf War to work for the US Air Force back in my day. The reason why I created this rebellion is to dismantle the lords and the shogunate one by one. But it's not going to be the easy task. Which is why you two will be part of this revolution." The man known as Kozumi explained the situation as Travis and Mizuka looked at each other and back to the rebellion leader.
"Okay? But, this is my first time returning here and I don't know the routes… and such." Travis complained as Kozuki shook his head.
"Don't worry. There is a map here on my table. Come over here, you two. It'll be long to explain so trust me." Kozuki said to them as they approached to see the map details…

(-Detail End-)
"Well, there you have it. You'll need to take down four of them. What's bad is that this arms dealer has been supplying weapons to all Lords and the Shogunate himself to further progress of the conflict. He goes by the name, The 'Dealer'. No one knows his real name. Not even I could guess it." Kozuki continued. "Again, you're free to go any region you want."
"Really? That's kinda nice. So just anywhere and anytime, right?" Travis asked him as he nods.
"Of course. If I were you, I'd start off to Sokuto's Region and liberate Narukoshima Town." Kozuki noticed as he forgot to say something. "I forgot one more thing. If you're thinking about climbing radio towers to get more signals, the answer is no. I ain't going to let you climb the towers for me all over the island. Just do what you gotta do. The Royal Army bastards shouldn't bother you no more. You can take my ATV to there. It's not far but I'm sure you'll reach there. I'll contact you through the radio and get going."
The two then turned and leaves his cave as Travis closes the door and looked at Mizuka.
"You know what to do, right? We're heading to Sokuto's region. He maybe a Lord. But this is our only chance to take him down. We can't afford to make a mistake. Now, you ready?" Mizuka asked him.
"I guess so. But, doing this rebellion thing? I'm not sure about it or like if I'm ready for anything. What am I going to do. I'm placed in a situation to help the rebellion and I don't understand. I don't understand at all!" Travis expressed his feeling of anger as he clenches his fists.
"Travis-san… It's okay. I know you're feeling down. I, too made mistakes. But you can't repeat them. You are yourself. Snap out of it. The more you get worried, the bad it'll get. Got it?" Mizuka calmly asks him as he takes a deep breath. Travis had to let it go, thinking that getting worried and angry won't solve anything.
"Yeah… you're right. Maybe I was wrong just to be worried. Thanks." Travis smiled and continued. "Anyways, first start… Sokuto's Region."
Both Travis and Mizuka looked at the nearby ATV that Kozuki parked. He then got on as Mizuki held on to his back with her arms to his chest. Travis starts up the engine and drives off-road, heading his way to the first region he must liberate… The journey has already begun…
[TO BE CONTINUED…]
Author's Notes: Thank you all for reading this story. Now then, I want to explain the theme. The theme will be focused on what Far Cry 5 did of what's called Separatism, which will be focused on why people who wants to be left alone until the re-ignition began. And the Protagonist represents my personality. I have anxiety, worries, anger, confusion, sadness, and sorrow. Sometimes, you just gotta stay happy. The protagonist makes mistakes like I do. Even if things go terribly wrong when it comes to being you of how you act. Again, this is my first story I've done to have a meaning to it. Anyways, I'd love to continue more but I'll think about it. Until then, Switch on your Youth!
