Jonathan sat up in bed while Martha stayed asleep. He had been having trouble sleeping for the past week. This all began when his friend, Jack Jennings had stopped by and when Jack left, he asked Jonathan if he would be interested in running for senator. Jonathan still hadn't told Martha about the talk he had with Jack, and he figured he wouldn't bring it up until he had finally made his decision.
For one thing Jonathan knew he had to take up the offer, otherwise it would be a Luthor in office, and that was something he just didn't want. But on the other hand, he was worried about what would happen to his family if he took up the offer.
Most important was that his and his family's life would not be private anymore. Sure the Kents were known throughout Smallville but this was different. There would be cameras and reporters everywhere, Jonathan would never have a moment's peace.
But that wasn't the most important thing on his mind. No, what was bothering him was that if he did in fact take up this offer, then Clark would be in danger. All these years he and Martha had been able to keep Clark's secret from their friends and family and Jonathan wasn't about to just let that break now.
Still, he knew he had to make a decision, and soon. He looked over at Martha who was still sound asleep. He wondered if maybe he told her what Jack asked him, maybe she could help him make a decision.
"Now the only problem is, how do I even begin to Martha about what's been going on lately," Jonathan thought to himself.
