"Now Harry, it is customary for young witches and wizards to have their magical strength tested before they enter the magical world" said Albus Dumbledore, raising his wand over the young boy sitting in Albus's office, just the latest in a series of tests so far. "It will make a visible manifestation of your magic appear as a sphere around your heart. The bigger the sphere, the more power. Have you got that?"
Upon seeing the boys nod, Albus raised his wand still higher, before bringing it down to point at the boy. There was a brief flash of white, then nothing. Harry and Albus looked around, Albus shocked, Harry waiting.
"Ah… Harry," said Albus, after several minutes of waiting, "unfortunately, you're not magical at all. This is a terrible mistake! You will have to have your memories removed I'm afraid, and then you will be sent back to the Dursleys. Oh dear, why an I even telling you this? It's not like you will remember it…"
Another flash, and Harry was sitting on his bed in Little Winging.
How odd. I've never dreamed like that before. So realistic… but I can't remember it now. Oh well.
Meanwhile, just under 400,000 km above them, the astronaut John Philips was conducting an experiment on the surface of the moon. He looked up at the little blue marble called "Earth", and saw the small dot that was England. If he squinted, he thought he could see a faint glimmer, where his wife and daughter in Scotland were. They had said they would light a candle on the window every day of his 40 day space mission, to "bring you home", and for a while, he fancied that the glimmer was- hang on!
The glimmer was definitely not an idle imagining now! It was a huge white sphere, covering most of Briton, then Europe, then the World, then-!
"Huston… we have a problem!"
