He had to pause as he realized what he was seeing.
It was a fork in the road. Not entirely unusual for one such as him, one who had been traversing the paths of the world for what seemed like a lifetime. However, this one was different; why did he feel as though the road to his left was of particular import to him?
Flashes of pink and blonde and white, intimidating stone faces, and leaves spiraling across his vision…
He grimaced. He couldn't quite decipher what he was remembering, exactly. No, his mind was too far gone for that; in fact, it was a wonder he was able to survive at all. How he had been doing it all this time, he wasn't quite sure. All he knew was that at times when his stomach grew pained, he would throw something into his mouth, and at times when his legs grew weak, he would close his unseeing eyes and fall away from this world, at peace for a few hours at least.
But he always had to return. And when the time was right, he would continue the cycle all over again.
At least his eyesight hadn't left him entirely. He could see just well enough to know when there was trouble approaching, whether it be in the form of an animal, a shinobi, or something more ominous still. Though nothing ever dared to bother him. He wasn't sure why. Was there something that scary about a dying man?
A snow white rabbit, 360 degrees of reflections, and senbon flying in a thousand directions towards a body that moved of its own accord…
Where was he? What was he doing? Was he in the past? What was his past? He stumbled forwards, lurching towards the right before teetering in the direction of the left once more. Finally, the pains that had always been present, a leeching sickness…
Aniki, coughing up blood, a smile plastered to his disease-ridden face and fingers splayed outwards…but who was Aniki?
Shattered his system, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of pervading disappointment, as though there was something he needed to do…
A picture frame turned on its side, and three smiling faces that made him promises of friendship and family…
There was someone waiting for him somewhere, someone who could use another chance, just like him…
"Please don't leave me! I love you so much, I just can't stand it!"
And someone who kept on chasing him…why was he being chased? He never ran. He only walked, kept walking, waiting for that person to find him…
"Because this is the first time I've ever had a bond like this…"
The man fell to the ground, body in the dead center of the fork in the road, though his head was tilted to the left, as though by some miracle of his own will, he could force himself to go in that direction. But his will had never been strong. Not like theirs.
And all he could do now was watch as everything he'd ever loved slowly spiraled away…
"Spirals," the man pondered dreamily, life already draining from his body. "My best friend used to love spirals."
Um…well. Okay. Ramblings of a crazy person, much? I have no idea where this came from. Let's just blame it on the fact that it's three in the morning, I'm feeling angsty, and my head is not in a sober state, if you get what I'm saying. OH WELL.
Yeah. I'm really sorry.
