Remus was so depressed. He could do nothing to suppress the hateful thoughts running through his brain.
You're a monster. Your friends don't actually like you. Dumbledore paid them. You're an ugly vicious monster. Sirius doesn't love you. He's disgusted by you. Sirius hates you.
A horrid whirlpool of thoughts and the knife, the silver knife, in his hand seemed the only way out. He brought it down on his wrist hard and his survival instincts pushed it away leaving a jagged and painful, but not fatal, gash in his forearm. He brought the knife down again and within ten odd seconds he collapsed on the floor in a pool of his own blood as he heard the door open.
Sirius walked into his room with James and peter and immediately spotted the red blood on the floor. He walked over to the other side of his bed and fell to his knees beside Remus' still form. "Peter, get madam pomfrey now!" he pulled Remus into him and hugged him to his chest.
"Sirius, there's a note…" James said handing it to him.
Dear Sirius,
I can't stand living anymore, in my constant ball of fear and paranoia that one day you guys will realise the awful danger you put yourselves in being my friends. I am a monster. I am a burden, a secret you have to keep. I just want to say I love you. I always have and always will. I am making life easier for you so do not mourn me. Heaven knows I don't deserve it. I'm going to kill myself and I don't know how yet but I guess this is my last goodbye. I love you Siri and the others.

Sirius let out an animalistic howl and then whispered "I never knew never noticed never even dreamed that he'd like me back and now he's done… this!"
Madam Pomfrey rushed in and immediately said" what did he use?" James brought forth a silver knife he had found next to his deathly pale best friend.
"Silver… shite!"
She began a long complex spell to remove all traces of silver from the werewolf's blood and started healing the wounds. After 5 minutes she sat back and Remus coughed, still in Sirius' arms. Sirius held him closer and flinched as madam pomfrey asked to see the goodbye note.
"Please Sirius, to get him to wake need to know the last two sentences other than his name"
Sirius burst into tears as James took the note from him and read "I'm going to kill myself and I don't know how yet but I guess this is my last goodbye. I love you Siri and the others. Oh my god. Sirius!" he pulled his brother in all but blood into a hug as Sirius sobbed into his shoulder.
"Rennervate"
Madam Pomfrey's voice woke Remus, who sat up groggily looking around.
"Oh Remus" all three marauders pulled their last member in for a hug. "don't ever do that again. You are not a monster and we love being friends with you and I've loved you too for quite a while now" Sirius said rather quickly.
"Really" Remus whispered. Sirius nodded as James dragged Pete out the room. Madam Pomfrey was slower to catch on and witnessed the most tender and love filled kiss she had ever seen. She silently exited the room.
"I love you"
