Poem 1Scar. (Morning Offering)
He prays in the morning.
When everything is silent
And still.
He sits up in bed,
Thinking I'm still asleep,
Bows his head and prays.
His words are soft whispers.
I strain to hear them.
His first prayers are those of
Sorrow and repentance.
Seeking forgiveness
For the things he has done.
His breath is heavy and his head
Hangs low for these prayers.
After a few moments
His prayers change.
His body seems to lighten
As he says prayers of thanksgiving.
He whispers what he is thankful for.
For our home,
Our life,
Our children…
And for me.
I smile and shift softly in my "sleep."
He prays in the morning.
When everything is silent
And still.
He prays for me.
For us.
And when he settles
Back down on the bed and
Kisses my lips,
I take a moment,
And pray for him, too.
