Like you
Soft, dark, and dreamless…
It was cold in the room, but Merlin did not care. His head was in the clouds, and he could not think.
He did not want to think.
Far beneath my nightmares and loneliness,
I hate me…
It was his fault. All his fault, again. Why did it always have to end up this way? Why was fate so cruel?
I don't want to feel anymore… for you…
How many more must die? How many?
Were not his father's and his best friend's deaths enough? Their deaths had struck deep blows into the depths of his young heart, and part of his youthful innocence had died along with them.
What was the use of having his magic when he could not use it to save those he loved most?
How many more must die?
Merlin looked down at his hands. So useless, so powerless… against death.
Grieving for you,
I'm not grieving for you…
Merlin closed his eyes and wiped away a few stray tears. He dared not make any sound, so as not to disturb Gaius. He felt guilty for lying to him, but Merlin did what he thought was right.
And though I may have lost my way,
All paths lead straight to you…
Life without her was unbearable. Memories of the short times he had spent with her flooded through his mind. Her sparkling eyes, her soothing voice… her soft lips…
And now she was dead.
I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you…
Why couldn't destiny leave him alone?
Why did he have to get tangled up into such a harsh, suffocating destiny; a destiny that would not let him choose; it would not let him escape.
He felt so helpless.
Halo,
Blinding wall between us.
Melt away and leave us alone… again…
Merlin squeezed his eyes together. "Why?" he whispered to himself. "Why?"
Out of his despair, Merlin sat up and pulled out a small glass capsule from under his pillow.
Its liquid ingredient was a light green, but in the darkness, it appeared to be a black night.
I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you…
Merlin held the capsule between his hands and stared at it.
All of this could be over, so easily. So, so easily. Too easily.
Destiny could be avoided… Was that what he truly wanted?
You're not alone,
No matter what they told you, you're not alone…
To end all this?
I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you did.
There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you…
But that would be selfish…
But had not he been too self-less? Had not he already given enough to Arthur? Had not he torn himself into too many fragments?
And as we lay in silent bliss,
I know you remember me…
Merlin turned the capsule around in his hand, the glass, cold against his warm skin…
I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you…
Was this his destiny?
There's room inside for two and I'm not grieving for you-
I'm coming for you…
Which does he choose?
