I love Josef and loved this scene so I thought I'd add a bit of Josef perspective. Rating T for mild language only.
Inspiration
Josef didn't really know what this was. This was weirder than anything else he had ever come across in all his four hundred years and he'd seen some weird stuff!
So Mick, his friend, vampire friend, was human and yet he seemed to have difficulty grasping this concept as he packed up his stuff to go after 'his Beth'.
Sometimes Josef wondered if Coraline had lost some of Mick in the transition phase somewhere. No one could be that stupid, reckless or just generally lacking in self-preservation. So a little display was in order. A literal take on the 'to knock some sense into him'.
He could feel Mick's life as he lashed out, cruelly and purposefully, almost feeling the bruises forming. He could hear the pain hiss out in Mick's breath, hear it in the crash of the very human back against the wall. Then he had Mick pinned to the surface, and the blood was singing with adrenaline and his heart was pumping so loud. Josef could smell the fresh, sweet blood and…crap…he was staring at Mick's neck. He abruptly wrenched his eyes back and let his friend go. This was why vampires should stay vampires, his mind snarled. Stupid, bloody idiots turning themselves back when they had no right to, and of course Mick had noticed because it would have been kind of difficult not to. Things like that really irritated Josef – especially when it pertained to him looking foolish – biting a 'used-to-be-a-vampire' friend slotted nicely into that category. Josef's face showed none of it – it was blank, neutral, except the strange flash in his eyes and the odd lilt to his voice.
Mick had noticed. Did he run? Freak out? Be even remotely fazed? No, of course not. It gave him an idea. An idea! He gained inspiration from it! Not the aimed for 'I will leave this alone' inspiration either. This was the sort of 'why doesn't Josef just turn my used-to-be-vampire-is-now-human self back into my vampire self and make this even weirder?' sort of inspiration.
Biting his best friend in the neck and draining his blood to kill him was difficult enough without the added pressure that he wasn't allowed to enjoy it…because that would be just too wrong…and obviously Mick tasted damn good. Of course he would, even if it were just to be awkward. So…now Josef was Mick's sire…step-sire…sort-of-not-really his sire and Mick was calling him dad because wasn't it oh-so hilarious and Josef was really not impressed.
If he had known how complicated it was going to get he would have stayed at home and paid someone else to do it all.
