Meredith followed Cristina and climbed into bed. Silence. It had been such a long day, and Meredith's heart ached for her best friend. Cristina's sobs had since subsided, but Meredith knew it was all Cristina was thinking about. She put her arm around Cristina and hugged her again, rubbing her arm.
Cristina's voice came out quietly. "What did I do wrong?"
It shocked Meredith to hear that, coming from strong, confident Cristina. Now Cristina was vulnerable, and it scared Meredith a little. She hadn't seen Cristina like this since the night where she'd had her near-death whatever.
"Nothing!" she replied vehemently. "You were ready, you were there. It's his loss."
"That jerk" she thought to herself. The room was silenced once more.
"What happened between you and McDreamy today?" Cristina asked.
Meredith shook your head. " No, this is not about me," she told her best friend.
"I need it to be, though. I need distraction." Cristina replied.
Meredith took a shaky breath. "I think we're done. I have no clue what's happening. He told me I'm shutting him out, and that if I wanted to end it, I should. I don't know what to do."
"McAsses." Cristina mumbled.
Meredith chuckled." A little bit, yeah."
"So where do I go from here? What do I do now?" Cristina asked Meredith, desperate for answers.
"You get some sleep, and we'll figure out what to do tomorrow."
"Okay. Mer?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for being my maid of honor. You were doing a good job."
"Anything for my person." Meredith replied.
The two snuggled together, and although this had been one of the worst days of their life, each felt comfort and a little bit of hope in each-other.
