What if it wasn't Lancelot who wanted to be a knight?
"I told you, only the sons of noble families may serve as knights."
Pale eyes glared at Arthur reproachfully. He wouldn't back down, oh no. His father would burn him alive if he gave in.
"Fine!" One last glare and then Arthur was on his own again, with only his own thoughts for company.
**********
A knock on the door. Gwen answered and Arthur sauntered in like he owned the place. Well he did, thought Gwen, but he still can't enter a lady's rooms like that!
"Morgana! A word!"
"I'm-I'm afraid she isn't here, sire. She's... out."
"Where?"
"Just out, sire."
"Tell me where she is!"
Silence. He gave up; spun on his heel and flew out of the room. He knew where she'd be. But it was wrong. She couldn't.
**********
Arthur. He was storming towards her, face thunderous.
"Arthur! I-I can explain!" Aah, she hated that. Hated the way that when she did something she felt like she had to explain herself to him. It wasn't his kingdom, not yet. Sometimes you have to do what's right, and damn the consequences. She'd told him that. Stupid Arthur with his stupid attitude and stupid arrogance!
"Morgana! What in Camelot's name do you think you're doing?!"
*********
As he arrived on the training ground, he saw her. Morgana was there, bold as brass, wearing his armour and clutching his sword. The indignity of it! His armour was far too large for her but still she moved with grace, swinging and thrusting the sword.
She looked over at him.
"Arthur! I-I can explain!"
A ghost of a grin flitted across his face. He loved that he had this effect on her, like she was a naughty child caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
"Morgana!" He roared in mock-fury. "What in Camelot's name do you think you're doing?!"
**********
They stared at each other. Morgana's face was pure venom. Arthur's, amusement.
"What are you smiling at?" She spat.
Arthur chuckled. "You look ridiculous. A man's armour isn't designed for women, Morgana. If my father saw you in that..." He chuckled again.
"You-" She swung his own sword at him. He caught her wrist, whirled her around at put the sword to her throat.
She gasped, panicked.
"Now you're going to learn the hard way."
Arthur's voice was low and menacing in her ear. She trembled. Arthur suddenly dropped his sword arm to his side.
"W-What are you doing?" Asked Morgana, shaken.
By way of answer Arthur tossed the sword into the air. She caught it, looking dazed.
"I'd like you to kill me."
