Dance With Me: Take My Hand

By adoubletn

Author's Note: I just had to write a companion fic to Dance With Me, so this Ron's point of view of the reception. Please enjoy!

A lean and tall redhead sat at one of the tables at his best friend and little sister's wedding reception, nursing a firewhiskey. After years of dancing around their attraction to each other, they had finally got hitched. Finally. Thank Merlin!

He glanced around the room, observing all the other guests, noting what they were doing, and their expressions. In the many years since when his female best friend had informed him that he had the emotional range of a teaspoon, Ronald Bilius Weasley liked to think that he had grown his teaspoon range a bit. At least to maybe...a tablespoon.

He chuckled a little at the thought, as his eyes lit upon the girl who had originally told him that. Well, not so much a girl as a woman now. She had grown since then, and her work in the auror department had given her a lovely athletic body. He himself had gone to work in his brothers' shop instead of the Ministry. Their conflicting work schedules, and growing apart from lack of common interest had led to their mutual break up.

They had still stayed close friends, and he had eventually learned to read into her actions a little bit more.

Like now, for instance. The one Miss Hermione Granger was tapping her foot and looking around as if looking for someone.

"Brilliant observation," a snarky voice said in his head. He smiled at it, realizing who's voice now resided in his head. He turned his head a few degrees to glance at the person who possessed the voice, smiling a secret smile to himself.

And then he turned back to his other best friend. She was still in her 'impatient with worry' mode, so he decided he would probably get a surprise later. He had no idea, however, what the surprise would be. Given who the special voice in his head was, he had heard some things, and had a little inkling. When his suspicious would be testified for truth later, he decided he wouldn't be annoyed at the news, if he was right. It would not be surprising that they had left him out, as his new aptitude to dealing with a certain type of people was not years revealed yet.

Ron picked himself up and scooted down a few tables to talk to his old flame, Miss Lavender Brown. She rambled about some random things as he nodded and hmm-ed and haw-ed at the right places.

And then, it happened. Hermione's waited guest arrived, and Lavender's one sided conversation with him stopped as she too watched the couple move about the dance floor. Ron himself gave a little smile at his two best friends' happiness.

After the chaos of the reveal, and the subsequent disappearance of the two couples, Ron could feel everyone's eyes turn on him.

He gave a broad grin as he stood up and walked way across the dance floor. To the Slutherin contingent of the room. He could see his girlfriend, turned love and fiancé, sitting there, waiting for him.

Her eyes sparkled as he put out his hand and his eyes asked a silent question.

"Take my hand?"

She smiled and reached out for it daintily, and he led her to the dance floor. Everyone's eyes were on them for the next whole song as whispers flew all around the dance floor.

"Pansy Parkinson and Ron Weasley?!"

I hope y'all enjoyed this as much as I did writing it! Please leave a comment. (:
