The Enchantment of the Cherry Blossoms

The cherry blossom trees swayed and the wind carefully plucked each petal from its flower and bestowed upon the world a pinkish-whitish drizzle. And who ever saw this little imitation of snow was enchanted. Chiyo Mihama was one of those enchanted. She stared out into the flurry of cherry blossoms and soon lost attention to Ms. Yukari's lecture. Slowly her gaze turned to a blank stare and her thoughts remained with the cherry blossoms, and after minutes that seemed like hours, Chiyo-chan hear a loud slap and her attention turned from the cherry trees and to the front of the classroom and saw Ms. Yukari yelling at Tomo, a loud and troublesome friend.

"I wasn't sleeping, Ms Yukari. I was just closing my eyes!"

"Then why are you drooling?"

The class laughed. Then Osaka, an odd friend, asked, " Does anyone wonder whether drool comes from your stomach? But if it does then wouldn't it be stomach acid?"

The class stared at Osaka and Ms. Yukari sighed and went on with her lecture. But it was short and the bell rang. Chiyo-chan and her friends met up with Sakaki, Kagura, and Yomi, three other friends and they were really talented. (Yomi was extremely smart, and Kagura was extremely atheletic, and Sakaki was cool and got good grades and was great in athletics.)

Then Chiyo-chan asked, "Did you see the cherry blossoms? They were really pretty!"

Sakaki sigh, "Yea, I was watching them the whole entire class. They are enchanting."

Chiyo-chan replied, "Yes! They were exciting weren't they? Oh my… Isn't this great look the cherry blossoms are flying again!"

Everyone looked outside the window and saw the little shower and said wow… and then their gaze was on the cherry blossoms. This went on until the bell rang, and then it was time for P.E. and the girls hurried down the steps and to the P.E. lockers and dressed and then they waited for Ms. Kurisawa's approval for volleyball. And so their teams were picked and then they started to play. Chiyo-chan's group included Chiyo herself, Yomi, Sakaki, Kagura, Tomo, and Osaka.

This team mostly relied on Sakaki and Yomi and Kagura for Chiyo was too short and Tomo who hit too hard and sometimes the shots landed on Chiyo and Osaka's blankness caused her to not pay attention to the ball. But today, all of their eyes lay on the cherry trees and they couldn't concentrate on the game. So game after game they lost until the game was twenty-nine to three. But they didn't care, for they all lay enchanted to the cherry trees.

After the day was over, the six friends were still under the spell of these cherry trees. They walked dazed, and when they got home they just looked out of their windows or did strange things. Luckily they didn't have any homework because they didn't do anything of use. And they all went to bed, thinking about those bewitching cherry trees.

The next day, Chiyo-chan woke up earlier than she usually had. Mr. Tadamichi, who was usually on her bed, was down stairs waiting for Chiyo to feed him. The dog was unusually energetic this early in the morning. But Chiyo-chan prepared her lunch and ate her breakfast and then walked to school, not really knowing what had happened yesterday. But she shrugged it off, and sooner her friends joined up with her with puzzled looks for it seems that no one remembered what had happened yesterday.

As soon as they reached the school's front gate, they looked at the cherry trees but they weren't enchanted, this time…
