--------

It is six thirty
I shut the alarm clock off.
Meow. Yawn. Thunk! Sigh....

I open the door.
The cat looks at me. "Meorw.."
He runs in the loft.

Tomorrow's Paper;
Now making a mental note;
I read the headlines.

I gripe at the cat
"One day off is all I ask..."
"Is that too much, cat?"

Coffee, shower, shave.
I've been doing this for years.
It is what I do.

Down at McGinty's;
Marissa is there working.
I say "Good Morning."

She knows my secret.
She's know it from the very start.
She says it's a gift.

I say "good-bye." now.
She says "Gary be careful."
I smile. "Okay."

Spending all morning;
Preventing minor mishaps.
The paper changes.

I stop another act.
"CENSUS TAKER BEATS NEIGHBOR"
It changes again.

"ROBBER KILLS TEEN"
Gunshot to the cranium.
He dies instantly.

He's a bystander.
It happens at four o'clock.
Crap. It's almost four.

Running down the street.
I prevent another crime.
Headlines then vanish.

"I could have been killed..."
The kid says, "Thank You, Mister!"
I say "You're welcome."

The police show up.
It is Detective Armstrong.
He takes my statement.

Most Headlines have changed.
I return to McGinty's;
and help with the bar.

Just another day.
Three-sixty-five days a year.
It's worth it though.

The End.
