I don't own the characters or the series YuYuHakusho. I also don't own Alison Krauss [xD] or her music/songs.

[enjoy this very short introduction into the world of my fanfiction. 3]

Hiei wished he could understand the shiny-eyed half human to whom he had shared so many irreplaceable years. He only knew as much as Kurama allowed him to know, he understood this. And yes, it did frustrate him every day of his lax and un-enjoyable life. He was still held to a sentence that should have been filled a year ago.

[Apparently, it had upset Koenma that he had taken his wrath out on a poor orphanage before his entire sentence was cleared, so he elongated it.]

Presently, Hiei sat next to the pretty red-haired boy on his plain bed, the covers still ruffled and wrapped around Kurama's body frame. His house was nice…homely.

It was a place of peace, and mostly it stayed silent.

Hiei also pondered on understanding school, something he'd never had to deal with. Of course, Kurama enjoyed it. In fact, he excelled at it while never putting anyone else down. He helped anyone out who needed it and if someone had anything bad to say about him, they were shunned until they apologized directly to him.

The grading never seemed to add up in his head. Kurama would slowly explain how it all worked and by the end of his attempt Hiei was either asleep or he would profoundly state "I'm bored."

Kurama never snored, but he did seem to breathe restlessly sometimes, though he was clearly asleep. Hiei always got a blip of demon energy around those times [his body's way of saying "Yoko is here."]. He looked very content. Maybe even happy.

Hiei was also very determined in the aspect of figuring out whether Kurama was indeed as free as he seemed to pull off.

Sometimes he would breeze by, and even if something was weighing him down, he seemed to be undeterred by all things. Hiei knew this wasn't true, though it looked that way. No one was ever free of all baggage. He also assumed Kurama was chained more than anyone else he'd ever known, what with Yoko inside his mind and trying to cope with that.

Hiei wished to wake him and see his beautiful green eyes fill his world with what he needed. Kurama's presence made Hiei believe anything was possible, taking over the world included.

"Why can't we let our pasts go? I know you don't, I know. It weighs on you, barring you from your well deserved freedom, as it does me."

Hiei was mumbling lightly as he stroked Kurama's face. Twitching his finger's over Kurama's eyelids. Smoothing over his hair, glistening and beautiful, he patted his head and stood up, walked to the opposite side of the bed, and untwisted the covers from Kurama's body as gently as he could, attempting not to wake him. He didn't.

Hiei smirked and appeared next to the window sill. He watched Kurama curl into a ball and Hiei knew he would be fine and that everything would be okay. He, himself was going to understand everything; it was a fight he refused to lose.

He slid the window open silently and slipped out onto the tree branch that stretched toward the window.

He slowly started to ponder on all the previous things and run them all through his mind again, picking up small details and conversations. Still, he was confused. But things would get easier, of this he was sure, and that freedom would cost him, but with Kurama by his side, it would be a simple and meager task. Dreams came quicker to him that night than any other.

[You're the lucky one so I've been told

As free as the wind blowing down the road

Loved by many, hated by none

I'd say you were lucky 'cause I know what you've done

Not a care in the world, not a worry in sight

Everything's gonna be alright, cause you're the lucky one.]
