Just a fluffy oneshot I came up with at nine o'clock last night. Thought that I may as well post it. Hope you like it!
"Hey, Riley, wait up a minute." My boyfriend, Lucas called after me. Today had not been a good day. Then, Maya had been home sick, then, I got a C on my latest Spanish test, and then, I hadn't understood a thing my dad had taught today. I turned to Lucas, hoping he could shed some light in this dark, gloomy day. "So I was wondering if I could walk you home." I smiled and slipped my hand in his.
"I would like that very much." We headed out of the school and to the closest subway station. When the train pulled up and the doors opened, Lucas and I sat in our usual seats, our still joined hands resting in my lap.
"So, today wasn't really the best for you, huh?" Lucas asked. I shook my head empathetically.
"No, not really." I replied. "I hope that it was better for you." Lucas smiled and squeezed my hand.
"It couldn't have been that bad if it couldn't extinguish my Riley's spirits." He said. I gave him a quizzical look. "Still being concerned about others." He clarified. "And something good did happen to me today. Well, maybe two things."
Lucas let go of my hand and rummaged through his backpack before pulling out a jacket. "You got your letterman jacket today." I said, smiling, knowing that Lucas had been anticipating this for a while. "That's great."
"And now it's time for good thing number two." Lucas said, and placed the jacket in my lap. I looked up at him, confused. "I want you to wear my jacket." He explained. "So that everyone will know that you're my girl." My smile grew.
"Really?" He nodded, and as the subway pulled into a stop (not ours), I stood up and pulled it on. Lucas' last name was stitched on the left lapel pocket, and on the back over his team number. "Thank you so much!" I exclaimed as I sat back down and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"So maybe today wasn't so bad after all?" Lucas asked as he slipped an arm around my shoulders. I nodded and nestled myself into the crook of his arm. I lowered my nose into the collar of the jacket and sniffed; it smelled ever so faintly of Lucas, and I smiled. The subway pulled into our stop and we got off, then walked hand in hand around the the back of my building, under the bay window.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Lucas said, and gently kissed me. "Good bye."
"Good bye." I replied, and started up the fire escape to crawl into my room through the bat window. On my bed, I found a much better looking Maya waiting for me. "Have you been here all day?" I asked, dropping my backpack onto the ground.
"Maybe." She replied. "Wait, what are you wearing?" She asked, her eyes training on my jacket.
"Oh, um, Lucasgavemehislettermanjacket." I quickly replied. Maya closed her eyes, thinking, and I winced as I remembered that she was as good as translating my fast talking as she was at painting.
"Lucas gave you his letterman jacket?" She realized. "Oh, Riles, that's great!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah, it really is."
