"Then and Now"

Once trustworthy,
once loyal;
now suspicious,
now with a motive.
Twenty six words
and you change.

Greed and envy,
they become you.
Where you were loyal
you are scheming.
A velvet blanket
holding back the black.

A push here, a push there,
and further you descend;
Beelzebub pauses,
as if in thought.
Once your star shined,
Now it pulses darkly.

Desires once hidden
now rise to the surface
nearly unstoppable.
Beelzebub smiles,
a door once locked
is now unlocked.

Fate plays her game
The point of no return is here.
Walking the line,
you go for it--and you fall.
Power is yours,
but at what cost?

Desires once barely held back
Burst forth and consume.
Beelzebub laughs.
The door opens wide.
Beelzebub walks through;
you and him joined as one

Now as one,
power, is yours
but is it really?
Tied to prophecy
you are vulnerable.
Fate moves and the pieces fall.

Now the moment of truth,
Fate has written the story,
and now it unfolds.
Everything is at stake
A kingdom, power and lives;
and at that moment it ends

Once you were loyal,
then you became greedy;
Once you were a hero,
then you became a traitor;
Once you were alive,
and now you are dead.
