A Mother's Sacrifice

Henry is ready with sandwiches, complete with a dill pickle each on the side, and they sit there for almost two hours before realization sets in. David isn't waking up.

"Something's wrong," he whispers, frustrated and fearful, and he turns a bewildered expression upon Regina, who's been sitting quietly with him the entire time. Her son wants answers, and she knows she's lucky to be the one he's turning to for them.

Not lucky, she reminds herself. There's nobody left.

Still, she's been trying. Trying to be good. Trying to go without magic. The only thing she doesn't have to try to do anymore is the one thing she's spent Henry's whole life trying to do-love him.

She follows Henry's gaze as it shifts back to David. Worry sets in. Worry for Charming-Snow White's prince. It doesn't really surprise her-she is worried because she loves Henry. In finally letting herself love Henry, she can forget her hatred of Charming. She tried to talk him out of going under the sleeping curse. She wants him to be well, because it would be best for Henry.

This is a mother's love, it dawns on her. The sacrifice feels so small compared to loving her child in return.
