She sat gazing into space, watching for the shiny silver Volvo that was due to pull into the parking lot. Taking a sip of the coffee in front of her she went over in her mind, once again their first meeting...
It had been a cold October in Forks that year, cold and wet in fact. Yet Alice, her lifelong friend and partner in crime, had still insisted on holding the Halloween party. She hadn't wanted to be in the centre of the party that was in full swing, so she had wandered through the empty upper floors of the house, trying to move away from the pounding bass of the music.
Climbing up the staircase she reached the third floor, the music from downstairs finally having been reduced to a soft thud in the distance, muffled by the floors between. She sought to seek refuge behind one of the doors, hoping Alice wouldn't come and find her.
Pushing the first door open and peeking inside she was met with the shocking sight of who she presumed was Edward, Alice's older brother, the brother she talked about so much. He was laying on his back, his features shadowed perfectly by the soft light that illuminated the room, his soft bronze hair caught the strands of light, revealing hidden flecks of red. As If he could feel her watching him his eyes fluttered open, to reveal the startling emerald eyes looking in her direction.
"Bella?" His voice croaked, likely be from having just woken up.
"Bella? Is that you? You're real?"
Bella moved closer, amazed that someone who had never met her knew her name and who she was, the suddenly soft sound of the beeping heart monitor, next to his bedside, caught her attention.
Feeling an instant connection with him she had sat in the vacant armchair next to him, holding his hand and softly stroking his hair for a while, before finally taking her phone from her jeans pocket and making the call.
"Carlisle? He's awake!"
