Dreams
Sometimes, Tsubasa sits down, and dreams.
"What are you doing?"
Tsubasa looks up from his careless sprawl under his favorite cherry blossom tree, a smile easily gracing his lips when he sees his best friend. "Kaname," he greets, and watches the young man take his place beside him.
"So? What have you been up to?" the blond asks.
Tsubasa laughs, and pulls himself up so that he is seated next to his friend. "I was sleeping. And I had a dream."
Kaname lifts an eyebrow, curious. "A dream? About what?"
Tsubasa snorts, looking mildly embarrassed. "I was dreaming about a world without alices."
"A world without alices?" Kaname repeats, his smile wavering slightly. "Don't tell me you're actually even thinking about something like that?"
Tsubasa shrugged. "I don't know. I think things would have been less complicated without alices."
Kaname sighs, as if in silent acceptance of what his friend said. "I… I wouldn't even consider a world like that."
"And why not?" the dark-haired alice asked, his voice rising an octave. Sometimes he can't understand how stubborn his friend can be – even when they both know he has a point. "You know your life wouldn't have been like this without an alice, so why not?"
Kaname seems amused by this. Without a warning, he takes his friend's hand and holds it in his, chuckling at the faint blush that colors the other man's cheeks. "I met you because of my alice," he says, in all earnestness. "If I were to choose between a world with neither alices nor you, and a world with an alice but with you beside me – " he gives Tsubasa's hand a squeeze " – you know I'd pick the latter, every single time."
Kaname watches Tsubasa's face turn beet red, amused. "Y-You… you putting it that way ruins everything!" the master of the shadows exclaims.
The blond only laughs, and his laughter sounds so real and genuine that in that moment, despite himself, even Tsubasa Andou agrees, This is better than any dream.
dreams.
