This is a oneshot story of Aelita's first days in Lyoko (yes, that she refers to Aelita). I do not own Code Lyoko.

The longer one spends cut off from reality, the more one loses touch with it. The first day was pure torture, wandering a vast, empty desert alone with no idea of what was happening. The next day was even worse; the pain and fright of loss flared up stronger, like how a terrible injury only really begins to hurt a few hours later. The shock wears off. The next few days were marginally better, and she could now fall asleep without crying.

But soon enough, the days began to blur in her dream world. She had watched a movie with her father a long time ago, where a man stranded on a desert island. He made markings in a tree so that he could remember how the days passed. It kept him sane. There were no such trees here. The perfect blue sky stretched out above her, somehow lit by an unseen sun; the ruddy, textureless land stretched out beneath her feet. There wasn't even a night (of course, with no sun, there couldn't be a night), so she didn't even have that to go by. Sometimes, she got scared that she would lose her mind, the only thing she had left.

But it stayed with her, and it was all right for a time. She spent the days (or was it just one endless day) tracing invisible patterns on the smooth ground, amusing herself with stories and memories. But there weren't enough memories to take up that time, and after a while, she stopped thinking about her papa and her big house in the woods. The stories stayed fresh, though.

Eventually, she tired of even those. For how long had she sat, knees drawn up to her chest, still as a rock, not thinking at all? When not occupied, the mind loses its strength. Slowly but surely she stopped caring.

And slowly but surely, she forgot.
