Hello everybody! I just want to start off by saying that this is a rewrite of a story I start writing a few years back. It's not too different just yet, but that will soon change.
If you're reading for the first time, feel free to proceed! And if there are any old readers still miraculously out there, I'm sorry for starting it back at square one but there were just too many changes that needed to be made.
Either way, I hope that those both old (if there are still any, at least) and new to this story enjoy!
Note: All ages are based of the Japanese education system where elementary school is for children ages seven through twelve, junior high is for twelve to fifteen year olds, and high school goes from ages fifteen to eighteen. The new school year also starts in spring rather than summer.
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon Adventures.
Ch. 1: Ya-hooo~!
A cool spring breeze blew into the quaint room as dazed hazel eyes slowly opened. Sitting up lethargically, a young girl with long golden hair lazily rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She nearly choked on her yawn when a small yellow creature suddenly jumped on her head. The sudden attack snapped the girl completely awake.
"Chuchu!" the girl exclaimed as she pulled the rodent off of her head. Looking at the electric Pokémon and seeing the mischievous glint in her eyes, the blond could tell that the Pikachu wasn't the least bit guilty at nearly giving her a heart attack.
Climbing out of bed, the girl gave the Pikachu a wry grin and sighed, "At least I'm up now, I guess." After she completed preparing for the day, the electric rodent settled itself upon her shoulder as the blonde headed toward the kitchen for breakfast.
"Finally up, Yellow?" a gruff voice asked from in front of the stove as a stocky man flipped a pancake. The girl gave him a good morning kiss before pouring herself a glass of orange juice and sitting at the table. Jumping off of Yellow's shoulder, Chuchu ran out the small doggy door on the kitchen door to join her fellow Pokémon for breakfast.
"Yeah. Thanks for sending Chuchu to wake me up, Uncle Wilton."
The man turned and placed a plate of pancakes in front of the girl before settling down to his own plate of breakfast. "Are you ready for your first day of high school?" he asked before taking his first bite.
Yellow looked up from her plate at the question. While her uncle had asked the question as nonchalantly as he could, she could easily detect the concern the question held. Not wanting to cause the man any more stress, she smiled brightly, "Of course!" Seeing her uncle's skeptical stare, she continued earnestly, "Really Uncle, you don't have to worry about me so much anymore. Everything's okay now."
Uncle Wilton gave her a weak smile. When he looked at the calm young woman before him it was hard to believe that she was the same scared little girl he first found hiding in the forest.
"You know I can't help worrying for you Yellow," he said with a furrow in his brow. "Before last year, I know you were having a rough time fitting in."
Yellow stood up and placed her plates in the sink before turning and giving her uncle a tight hug. "Don't worry," she said softly. "Things are different from before. I've finally found people that are willing to accept me and as long as they're there for me, I couldn't ask for more."
Wilton patted the girl's arms affectionately a she pulled away. As glad as he was that his niece had found some long awaited happiness, a cynical part of him wondered how true her words were. Would these new friends of Yellow really accept her if they knew the whole truth?
As much as he wished for the girl's peculiarities to remain a secret, Wilton knew that secrets always seemed to find a way of getting discovered. He just hoped that once this one did, that these friends of Yellow would still remain by her side. Because if they didn't, it may finally end up breaking his little girl in a way she might never recover from. And Yellow had suffered more than enough heartache to last a lifetime. They both had.
Grabbing her brown satchel from the doorway, Yellow headed for the kitchen door. "I'll be going now Uncle. Have a nice day!" she called out, running out the door.
"Take care!" he called after her as she bid her Pokémon farewell before heading toward her school.
.
.
.
Making her way from her cottage in the Viridian Forest down Route Two, the blonde pondered her uncle's words.
For Yellow "fitting in", as her uncle had so eloquently put it, has always been an exercise in futility. In her short fourteen years of life, the blonde has found that people tended to cringe away from anything they considered different. And "different" she, unfortunately, was.
At a young age, Yellow noticed that she'd had several strange abilities that others did not have. With a simple touch she could feel another being's emotions, see snippets of their memories and, on occasion, even hear their strongest thoughts. And as a child, Yellow was unable to differentiate the "voice" within people from the things that were actually said aloud which led to some very awkward situations.
Between that little habit, and the incident from the summer before fourth grade, it didn't take long for the other kids to see her as a freak of nature.
But despite the constant stigma she's had to live through, there was one aspect of her powers that Yellow was actually grateful for. By using part of her life energy, she could heal the wounds of others. And while this skill tended to leave her unconscious for long periods of time, she was thankful for the ability to help others rather than cause harm.
Unfortunately, it wasn't capable of healing everything; a lesson that Yellow had to learn the hard way.
Yet, as much as she appreciated the ability to cure wounds, she hated the other powers she possessed. Being able to delve into the minds of others was frightening; invasive and personal to uncomfortable degrees. It wasn't right for her to be able to see someone else's inner thoughts, let alone influence the way they felt. The mind was sacred, a place of privacy. It was where the very essence of a person lied. When she felt another person's emotions and memories she ceased being Yellow. That sensation of being overpowered by someone else's core, of completely losing herself, terrified her.
Regrettably, it wasn't until she was older that Yellow truly came to understand just how overwhelming her powers could be. As a child, she had been so quick to lose control. Confused and angry at the world, she had retreated into the security of the Viridian Forest using the emotions of the Pokémon to drown out her own despair. Pokémon held simple emotions and modest needs and wants. They wouldn't hurt her the way people would with their cruel thoughts and twisted desires.
And Yellow had been fine living that way; slowly losing herself until she became as feral as the Pokémon she lived with.
It wasn't until Uncle Wilton found her, saving her with his gentle kindness and sincere concern that the blonde finally began to heal, to move past her grief. Uncle Wilton had given her, something that she had been desperate for; a family. She would have never imagined wishing for anything else.
At least up until last year when she befriended the devious Blue Aoi and realized just how lonely she had actually been.
"Ya-hooo~!" A voice called out from the distance just as Yellow reached the center of town. 'Speak of the devil…' the blonde warmly thought as she was interrupted from her musings.
"Good Morning Blue. How was your br – oof!" Yellow greeted before she was squeezed by the slightly older girl.
"I missed you!" cried Blue before she let go and took a good look at Yellow. "You look great in the new uniform, Yellow."
Both of the girls were sporting the uniform for high school students of Kanto Academy. This comprised of a black blazer over a long sleeved gray collared blouse, black and gray pleated skirt with black knee high socks, and black loafers. All students wore ties that signified what class year they were in. As first years, Blue and Yellow wore red ties. Second years wore green ties, and third years wore blue ties.
For individuality, the academy allowed the students to accessorize however they wished including the bags they chose to bring. Blue went all out, sporting a black canvas bag with her name stitched on in silver cursive as well as silver bracelets on both wrists and an aquamarine necklace with matching earrings that Yellow got her for her last birthday.
"You look great too, Blue," Yellow replied after catching her breath after having the life squeezed out of her. As the two walked toward the school, they caught up with each other on their respective vacations. The older girl seemed more excited than usual which alerted Yellow's suspicions immediately.
"Your plotting something again, aren't you?" Yellow asked warily, hazel eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Azure eyes blinked innocently, "Why whatever do you mean, Yellow dear?"
At Yellow's unimpressed stare, Blue gave an overdramatic sigh, "No faith, I swear," she muttered. "Can't I be excited that my two childhood friends are finally coming to Kanto Academy after studying abroad in the Johto region?"
Caught off guard by the brunette's rather sudden confession, the blonde came to a stop, surprised. Blue sometimes mentioned her childhood friends when they were together but Yellow hadn't expected them to come to the academy. Though given the academy's reputation, the blonde supposed she shouldn't be too surprised.
Kanto Academy was a fairly prestigious school. Located in Viridian City, people from all over the world come to study at the academy, even coming from as far as the Unova region. As an elevator school, Kanto Academy offers education from pre-k all the way to University. The Academy has a variety of curricula for students to specialize in different areas ranging from everyday professions to Pokémon related vocations.
As such, the course work is rigorous with many students failing out each year. Not to mention the price tag on the school is pretty hefty. Luckily, or unluckily for some, the school offers full scholarships to the top twenty students of each grade. It was due to this provision that Yellow, whose family is of modest means, was even able to attend the academy.
"Oh! I really didn't expect that. I'm glad for you, Blue. Sorry for being so suspicious," the blonde apologized sheepishly not noticing the devious smirk on the brunette's face.
Before Blue could reply, a whirl of white, black, and blue crashed into her with enough force to knock her to the ground. Groaning, Blue looked toward her attacker, "Geez Sapphire, are you trying to kill me?"
"Sorry Blue-senpai! I was just so excited to see ya and Yellow-senpai after so long!" said the young girl with a fanged grin.
The girl before them was their kouhai from the junior high school division. The only difference between their uniforms was the fact that the younger girl was wearing a white collared shirt, rather than gray, with a black tie. The rambunctious brunette wore a bandanna that matched her strikingly bright sapphire eyes.
As Blue dusted herself off and prepared a retort, she was interrupted once again by a shout in the distance. "Hold up you brute!" the figure of a young boy called out.
"Ruby! Hurry your sissy butt up, ya Slowbro!" Sapphire called out to the boy.
Finally, the boy steeped up to the group leaning on his knees as he caught his breath. "Huff…how can…you…huff…have so much…energy!?" Glowing ruby red eyes glared up reproachfully at the young brunette from under a strange white hat. The boy was wearing the male version of the junior high school division uniform sporting gray slacks in place of a skirt. He too had a black tie signifying his status as a second year in junior high school.
"I wouldn't've been rushing so much if ya hadn't spent so much time gettin' ready!" Sapphire retorted.
"Excuse me for wanting to be presentable on our first day back!" Ruby fired back.
"Aren't they just the cutest?" Blue staged whispered to Yellow while the younger girl looked nervously from Sapphire to Ruby.
"WE ARE NOT CUTE!" the two shouted as one toward the older brunette.
Blue continued on unfazed, "Well if you two are done with your lover's spat –"
"HEY!"
"- then we should probably hurry so you can find what classes you're in."
With that the quartet jogged to the academy following the flood of students converging at the iron gates before the cluster of schools. The campus of the school was enormous, as expected, since the academy was comprised of several different divisions. At the front was the elementary division, with the junior high school division on the left and the high school division on the right. The school grounds were pristine with stunning trees and flowers neatly arranged around all the buildings complete with seating areas which were already occupied by various students. Each division also had their own set of facilities, including gyms and sports fields. All the buildings were immaculately white and the windows sparkled in the sunlight.
But as grand as the campus before them was, there were rumors that the university campus located on the other side of the city was even more glamorous.
"As always the academy is as beautiful as ever," breathed an adoring Ruby.
Before the boy could wax poetic on the splendor that surrounding them, a hand grabbed his collar and dragged him toward the building on the left muttering, "Let's go prissy boy." Sapphire turned to her seniors and yelled out, "We'll see you at lunch senpai!" as she disappeared into the crowd of students.
"Now then, we should head over to our side as well," Blue said before making her way to the right with Yellow.
"I'm surprised we haven't met Gold, Crystal, or Silver yet," Yellow said as the two of them changed to their indoor shoes.
"I'm sure we'll see them at lunch. I can't wait to see how Silvy is doing~!" Blue cooed as she made her way down the hall.
As Yellow made to follow the brunette, she suddenly realized something of major importance. "Blue! Where are you going? We don't know what classes we're in. We have to check out the board in front of the school before it's too late." The smaller girl couldn't help being a bit worried. They only had a few minutes before the tardy bell rang.
"Don't worry Yellow. I already know what class we're in. You and I are in the same class, 1-A. I'm sure there'll be a nice surprise waiting for us there," smirked the girl.
The shorter girl looked at her quizzically, "How do you already-" The girl was abruptly cut off as the first warning bell rang.
Grabbing the younger girl, Blue pulled her along while she ran to the classroom. "Better hurry~!"
Upon entering the classroom, the thrum of chattering students came to a halt as soon as they spotted Yellow entering the room. Even though the girl was used to such treatment, she couldn't help the embarrassed flush that crept up her neck.
"Blue? Maybe we shouldn't have come in together," the blonde murmured in a subdued voice. The brunette's grip on Yellow tightened as she ignored the younger girl's statement walking toward two empty desks in the back.
"And where do you think you're going Ms. Aoi?" a stern voice asked from the front of the class.
Blue slowly turned around and was unpleasantly surprised. Their homeroom and physics teacher, Sabrina, was at the front with her arms crossed. The psychic trainer pointed at a seat in the front of the room. "There is an assigned seating arrangement. You're up in front where the teachers can keep an eye on you."
Blue gave an annoyed huff as she let go of Yellow. She slowly trudged to her desk taking a seat before looking pointedly away from Sabrina, her chin in her hand.
Yellow looked toward the blackboard for the seating arrangement and found her seat to be in the corner of the very last row. Making her way to her desk, the students on either side of her did their best to avoid eye contact with her.
Looking at her desk, the blonde almost let out a relieved sigh upon seeing the clean surface. She thought back to the desk in her previous class that had been constantly defaced with hurtful words and trash and swallowed thickly. 'This isn't junior high school anymore.'
Easing herself quietly into her seat, she faced the front of the room ignoring the glances in her direction and the obvious whispering. 'You should be used to it,' she chided herself, disappointed. This may not be junior high school, but sadly some things never change.
As the final bell rang, Sabrina turned to the class. "I'm sure you're all excited for another riveting year," she said sarcastically. "But before we start your first lesson, let me introduce some new additions to our class."
Immediately, eager chatter broke out as Sabrina went to the classroom door to usher in the new kids. It was very rare to have transfer students join the academy during their high school years. Most people either stay in the academy all throughout their education or join exclusively for the university.
Sabrina walked back to the front followed by two boys. The first boy had a rather cool aura around him. With spiky brown hair and calm green eyes, the boy scanned the classroom before meeting eyes with Blue. His composed face was marred with a grimace as she gave him a coy smile. He murmured something under his breath that had the girl outright grinning.
The second boy was slightly taller with dark ebony hair and bright crimson eyes. He seemed to have a cheery air about him as he gave a friendly smile to the class and a small wave to Blue once he spotted her.
Yellow's eyes widened as she realized they were the childhood friends Blue mentioned early. 'Did she…' the blonde thought before she remembered her friend's words. "I already know…surprise waiting for us…" Yellow quickly swirled her eyes over to where Blue was sitting only to see the girl giving her a playful wave. 'I should've known,' the young girl sighed to herself.
"These are your new classmates, Green Oak and Red Akai," Sabrina dully said slightly raising her voice above the gossiping girls and speculative boys. "Green, your seat will be behind Blue Aoi who I'm sure you know. Red, you will sit at the window seat next to Yellow de Bosque Verde who is at the very back." The class turned eerily silent at the last name, furtively glancing at the girl in the back, confusing both boys.
As Red made his way to the back, he couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with the stares aimed at him. Was it just him or were they borderline pitying? Brushing off his confusion, he sat down and turned toward his fair haired neighbor who was staring down at her desk, hands clenched in her lap.
"Nice to meet you Yellow," he said jauntily. The girl flinched before looking at him apprehensively. "Nice to meet you too," she said her quietly as she gave him an nervous smile.
Before Red could reply, Sabrina began class with a roll call and Yellow turned back to the front. As the lesson began, the boy couldn't help but be curious about his new neighbor.

As the bell rang for break Blue got up swiftly, dragging Green behind her as she made her way toward Red. Though the rest of the class was curious of the new arrivals, they glanced at Yellow before deciding to keep to themselves.
"Hey Yellow," addressed the brunette upon reaching them. "How did you like the surprise?" she winked.
"How in the world did you manage to get us all in the same class? I know you had something to do with it Blue," the smaller girl said hand on her hips as narrowed stern hazel eyes at Blue.
"Ohohoho~. You know Silvy and I have our ways Yellow dear," the blue eyed girl said with a wily smirk gracing her face. The younger girl could only shake her head slowly at the response.
The boy still in the brunette's grip wrenched his arm from her before muttering, "Pesky girl. Still the same as always, I see."
"Aw, you know me too well Greenie," she cooed.
Green gave a disgruntled groan, "Don't call me that!"
"Anyway, though I know we've all pretty much been introduced, I feel that a proper introduction is in order. I would like you two to meet my bestest friend ever, Yellow de Bosque Verde! And Yellow meet the two loveable doofuses I call my childhood friends. "
Red and Green gave good natured eye rolls while the aforementioned girl turned to the green-eyed boy and gave a small bow, muttering a soft, "Nice to meet you."
The brunette gave her a small nod murmuring a, "Likewise."
"Isn't she the just adorable?" the older girl said as she hugged the blonde tightly.
"Um, Blue? I don't think she can breathe," the crimson eyed boy said, worried at the young girl's wheezing.
"Whoops! Sorry again, Yellow," Blue said sheepishly, letting her go and patting the smaller girl on the back, before turning to the two boys.
"So, what do you guys think of Kanto Academy so far? Guess it can't be much since all we've had is class so far," she said to Red and Green. "If you guys would like, Yellow and I can give you a tour afterschool."
While Yellow looked vaguely uneasy at the suggestion, she made no attempt to refute the older girl as she nodded in agreement. Nothing will go wrong as long as I'm careful…hopefully.
"That would be great," Red said relieved. "This campus is so huge, I'm sure I'll get lost at some point or another. We only managed to find our way to the office because Professor Oak took us there."
"Oh, that's right. The professor is back too. I've missed him," Blue said wistfully. She turned toward Yellow with a conspiratorial whisper, "Green is the grandson of the Professor Oak." Cue another green eye roll. "Red lives with them over in Pallet Town rather than at the dorms," she explained. Blue turned toward Green, "Did Professor Oak take up a teaching position here?"
"Yeah. Grandpa will be teaching Pokémon biology while doing his research," the boy replied. "He said he would be accepting lab assistants from third year junior high students up to high school third years."
"Oh? Seems like something Crystal would be interested in," the brunette muttered before looking at the time, ignoring the boys' puzzled looks at the unfamiliar name. "Looks like break is pretty much over but we can talk more at lunch," she said before making her way to her desk with Green behind her.
"I'm glad to see that Blue is still the same as ever," the black haired boy said fondly glancing over at Yellow. While the girl didn't verbally respond to him, she did offer him a small smile. He couldn't help wondering if the girl just didn't like him. She wasn't very responsive and the rigid way she stood made it seem as if she desperately wished to be somewhere else.
.

As the bell rang for lunch, the classroom came alive with students clamoring to get lunch and meet up with friends. Blue made her way to the back of the room with Green in tow when suddenly the blonde quickly stood up as if she were remembering something. Beside her, Red flinched in surprise at the sudden movement.
"Sorry Blue! I just remembered that I forgot to check on the garden! I'll meet you and the others at the usual spot in a bit!" and with that the petite blonde sprinted out the room. The students made sure to quickly make way for her.
'Garden?' The black haired boy wondered curiously before turning to Blue. "So what's the plan?" he asked her.
"I guess we head over to the usual place we have lunch." She looked over at Yellow's bag before giving a small sigh. "Looks like Yellow forgot hers," she said while grabbing the yellow clothed bento from inside the bag. "Do you have your own bento or should be swing by the cafeteria?"
Red raised a crimson clothed bento. "Courtesy of Daisy," he said. "Green has one too, of course."
"How is Daisy doing these days?" the brunette asked the two.
"She's pretty good. She and Bill are currently in charge of Professor Oak's lab in Pallet Town while he focuses on stuff over here. Bill Masaki is Daisy's boyfriend," Red updated the girl while Green gave an unhappy, "Hmph!" at Red's last statement.
"Oh? Bill, huh. Masaki, Masaki, Masaki," she chanted, trying to remember where she might have heard the name before. She snapped a finger when it came to her, "The one that invented the Pokémon Storage System, right? Daisy and him must make an interesting pair…" the girl said with a playful gleam in her eye.
Continuing down the hallway, Green turned toward Blue to distract her from whatever she was scheming, "Where exactly is this usual place?"
"It's outside next to the junior high soccer field. All of the people we eat with are still in junior high so it'll probably be easier for them if we just continue to eat there."
Red turned to look out the window and pinpointed a small blonde running out the building. "Where did Yellow head to?" he asked Blue.
"Hmm? Curious about our cute and cuddly Yellow, Red?" the girl asked the mischievous look back in her eyes.
The boy couldn't help the embarrassed flush that rushed to his face at the teasing. "I was just wondering since she seemed to be in a hurry," he retorted dryly.
Ignoring his reply Blue continued, "Yellow went to look after her flowers over by the elementary school building. She planted them there after joining the gardening club last year. That was the only place they would let her plant stuff," she explained. "She's the only active member. The rest of the 'members' just joined for the club requirement. Speaking of clubs, though, have you got any ideas on what to join?"
"Haven't really thought about it," Red replied while Green gave a shrug.
"We could check on the clubs, when Yellow and I give you that tour."
"Are you sure you should have roped Yellow into that decision of yours. From the looks of it, I don't think she liked the idea very much." Ever the insightful one, it seemed that Green shared Red's earlier sentiments on the young girl.
The blue-eyed teen turned to look at the two before heaving a sigh. "It's not that she doesn't like you two. It's just that she gets really nervous around strangers. I guess you could call her shy. Anyway, the tour will be good for her. When she sees that you two…" she glanced at Green, "Well, when she sees that Red is nice –"
"Hey!" came the rebuttal of the brunet boy,
"- she'll warm up to you soon enough."
Red couldn't help thinking that Yellow's "shyness" was about more than just being nervous around strangers, and judging by Green's contemplative look, he probably thought the same.
"Is that why the rest of the class was avoiding her?" the green eyed boy eventually asked.
Blue turned a sharp gaze on Green, "No. It's because everyone in this class, nearly everyone in this school for that matter, are a bunch of superstitious idiots!"
The two boys stared at the girl, surprised by the sudden outburst. "What do you mean?" Red questioned carefully, wary of irritating the girl further. Handling an angry Blue required a healthy dose of caution.
The brunette let out her breath in an annoyed huff, "Rumor has it that weird stuff supposedly happened a few years back and Yellow was somehow involved. Now everyone's convinced she's some kind of witch or something equally ridiculous." Cerulean eyes rolled, "It's all bull, really. In all the time I've known her nothing even remotely strange has happened."
"It does sound pretty hokey," Red agreed.
It was silent between the three of them for a moment before the raven haired boy voiced another question to dispel the sudden awkwardness in the air, "How did you two end up becoming friends?"
"Good question, Red," Green said, "I'm surprised that you guys can even get along when you two are so different. It's a miracle Yellow can muster up enough energy to deal with your shenanigans on a regular basis."
Blue gave him cross look, "I'm not that bad, you jerk. And I'll have you know that we get along just fine, thank you." Huffing, she turned back to the other boy, "To answer your question Red, Yellow helped me out a lot when I first got here. She's the sweetest person I've ever met." The brunette tossed him a grin, a teasing look in cerulean eyes, "And while she may seem fragile, Yellow's actually pretty gutsy. But alas," she continued theatrically with a silly accent, "I shall leave that little story for another time for we are almost upon the usual spot."
Red hid a grin when he noticed the stiffness slightly fade from Green's shoulders during Blue's little show. The other boy would never admit it, but Red knew that Green had been worried for Blue ever since she decided to join the academy before them.
The raven haired boy was also glad to see that she'd found such a good friend in Yellow. As guarded as Blue is, it was a wonder that she'd found someone she was trusted and treasured enough to call her "bestest friend ever". He'd have to express his gratitude to the small girl sometime in the future.
True to Blue's word, the trio soon came about a large group of kids of varying ages. The place was bustling with activity as several different groups of teens conversed and interacted with one another. Some parts of the group seemed closer to one another than with the others but there was still an overall sense of camaraderie, even if some of them looked to be fighting.
Seeing their interested gazes, Blue turned to the boys with a grin, "Ready to meet our wonderful group of misfits?"
.
.
.
Yellow couldn't help but berate herself as she ran to her garden. How could she forget about the flowers! With the sun shining so strongly, their soil was sure to be dried out. As she made her way outside she pointedly ignored the murmuring around that always seemed to follow her around.
"See her? Everyone calls her the 'Witch of Kanto Academy'."
"You don't want to get anywhere near her or strange things will happen to you."
"I heard that if you get on her bad side, she'll send a hoard of wild Pokémon after you!"
To her relief, Yellow finally reached the garden. There was a large assortment of flowers already blooming despite the unexpected heat. Pansies, sweet peas, and marigolds of different colors covered the ground, giving off a gentle floral scent. They were growing strong and healthy under the girl's dedicated care, having looked after them all through break. The blonde filled a pail with water and began to sprinkle them. After setting down the pail, she turned to the flowers and crouched down feeling her taut body relax.
Yellow had always found peace with plants of all kinds, mostly due to this fact that she spent a majority of her childhood playing in the woods. Nature just had a special way of calming her down and it was something she especially appreciated now.
Meeting new people always had a way of frazzling the blonde. There was simply no way of knowing how new students would react to her. Gossip spread quickly in Kanto Academy and Yellow knew she was always a popular topic. In all honestly, though, she wouldn't have been surprised if everyone in Viridian City knew who she was, the rumor mill at their school was that terrifying.
Plus, there was the issue of more personal problems. Yellow had a fairly good grasp on her powers, having had years to deal with it, but there were still times when it slipped out of her control…which tended to happen when she was nervous. Confronting strangers certainly didn't help with that. Even more so, when it was people she hoped to make a good impression on.
It had taken her a long time to stop flinching at the random bouts of affection that Blue and the rest of their friends so freely gave. She had hated making them feel so awkward when she reacted so strangely to their touch, but at the same time, the mere thought of touching someone else made her heart beat anxiously. Who knew what she would see in that brief moment of physical contact? Yellow still felt guilty for the snippets of memories she'd seen from the others when she'd still been unable to completely control her powers.
The petite girl stood from her crouch, shaking the old thoughts off, already feeling her nervous tension from before returning. There was only so long she could prolong the inevitable.
Yellow knew that Red and Green were nice people. She had heard Blue speak about them affectionately enough to know that the older girl adored them greatly. And Yellow knew that Blue was a pretty good judge of character.
But with as many bad experiences as Yellow has had in the past, it was hard to relax her guard around people she didn't know, didn't trust. In spite of all the positive encounters she'd had the previous year and the new friendships she'd made; it didn't change her aversion to confronting others.
Because the more people she became close with, that she let hold a place in her heart, the greater the chance that she would one day end up being hurt by them.
