Dedicated to Hannah Lynn McDonald. (I hope one day you read this)
I DO NOT own Forever, or its characters. Just borrowing.
Rain fell from black billowing clouds overhead. The antique shop was closed, lights dimmed, as Henry stared out at the rain. He held a warm cup of tea, between cold hands. Distantly, the sound of Abraham shuffling around upstairs was audible over Doris Day singing 'Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered' on the record player. Henry smiled-the expression distant... almost sad.
Days like these, with songs like this... He missed her so badly-Abigail, his beautiful wife. She loved this song. He could perfectly recall her humming it in the kitchen as she cooked, or cleaned house. The familiar tune was was one he'd known well-she'd sung it to him, and to Abraham. They'd danced to the old record more times than he could count.
He sighed and closed his eyes, letting the sound of the music and the patter of rain on the windows wash over him. It was as if Abigail was right beside him... with him somehow. He remained there for some time, letting himself be happy in the moment. He would have to come back to the present some time, but not just then. He could wait... he could be there in that moment. After all, what were memories for, if not to relish?
Thunder rolled in the distance, and Henry opened his eyes again just in time to hear Abraham call down that dinner was ready. Henry turned away from the window and made his way toward the stairs, calling that he would be up shortly. He took the stairs a few at a time, pausing at the top for just a moment to listen as the music played softly. The words resounded in his soul...
"I couldn't sleep, and wouldn't sleep... then love came and told me I shouldn't sleep..."
Henry shrugged, smiled once again, and moved up the stairs, joining his son and heading to their small kitchen. Missing someone didn't always have to be painful-because some memories were too beautiful for pain.
Thank you to anyone who read. I hope you enjoyed it. :)
