"Tell me the truth!" Gibbs yells at his suspect. He pounds his fist on the table, and the noise resounds through the interrogation room.
On the other side of the glass, his senior field agent deepens his voice and says, "You can't handle the truth!"
Ziva exhales through her nose, but does not say anything. She has never seen this movie Tony is quoting, but of course she knows it is a movie. This film fetish is a part of him, and although she doesn't understand it, she accepts it. But does he have to incorporate the lines into his everyday conversations?
She looks at him out of the corner of her eye. He is now watching the interrogation with his arms crossed, unsmiling. Tony is funny like that. One minute, he will be goofing off, and then the next he is completely serious. And sometimes… sometimes, he notices the look in her eyes that she will not acknowledge herself, and he gets into her head like nobody has ever done before, and somehow, he makes it better. Ziva never, ever thought that this cocky, immature man would be a comfort to her. But he is.
She remembers what she told McGee about Tony- "he's like an annoying bug; eventually he'll just go away." Even at the time, when he was yelling at them from the other side of the elevator, she did not really want him to go away. And now, that is even more true. If Tony left their team, or NCIS- or her- she does not know what she would do.
In the interrogation room, the suspect breaks down, and Gibbs gets a confession. Tony whistles under his breath and leaves the observation room to arrest the guy. Ziva watches through the glass as he enters and cuffs one wrist, then the other, and follows Gibbs out the door. Right before he leaves, he casts a look over his shoulder and winks where he knows Ziva is, even though he cannot see her.
And she knows that he is not going anywhere.
