"Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity."

-Henry Van Dyke

As Jennifer Scott lay against his body in the hot soapy water, she sighed in contentment. It had been a long day, not just that it had been a bad day. One of the worst but it was all leaving her as his hands were resting at the juncture of her neck and shoulders. His fingers were kneading her sore muscles and she closed her eyes. Letting her head fall back onto his collarbone, his hand drifted to the faucet and added more hot water. She let out a small giggle as the bubbles inched towards her nose and batted them away. His strong fingers skimmed down her body and settled at her hips, securing her to his body.

She didn't know what she would do without Alex Drake in her life. This man was the rock in her life. His support and love was stronger than anything she knew of, his guidance and knowledge of just about anything and everything made her better as he taught her all he knew. She felt her body relax and her thoughts inched away from the day and focused on him. His strong body cradling her, the tenderness he only showed when they were alone like this. Other Cadets would whisper how she could be with someone like him. He was cruel, he was ruthless, a bastard, a hard ass, and many more unkind names. It hurt her every time to hear such awful things said because it was far from true.

"You just tensed up again. What's wrong?" he asked, his voice breaking the silence that had settled.

"I just hate what people say about you," she said, he shrugged and shifted beneath her.

"Jennifer, I don't care what anyone says. I never have and I never will. I know who I am. It no longer bothers me, it used to but at the end of the day, I know the world is better for how I am. I do my job and at the end of the day, I have you. It's all I need," She turned in his lap and faced him, her legs around his hips.

"Alex, you're amazing," she said, she opened her mouth to speak again and sighed, she could never handle that scrutiny. She could never bear to hear those things said about her. He did with silent dignity, his head always held so high. He watched her with a titled head, fascinated expression and a small smile on his lips. "You're the strongest person I know," He laughed softly and ran his thumb down her face.

"I'm only strong because I know I have you at my back. The day I met you, I knew…I knew you were the one person I was meant to be with," he told her. When she beamed up at him with that look in her eyes, in that moment he wanted to do the one thing he'd been waiting to do. He wanted to lean over the tub, dig into his pocket and fish out the ring he had purchased for her and give it to her. Unfortunately he promised himself not until Ransik was captured, only then could they live happily ever after forever.

"I love you Alex," she whispered, her eyes were locked with his and he just smiled a small sigh of contention left his lips.

"I love you just as much Jennifer. I will forever."

"Forever," she confirmed and he pulled her closer, his lips meeting hers. He had never known such love until he met her.
