Disclaimer: Shino, Hinata, and Hinata's father belong to Masashi Kishimoto. Excerpts from the song "LoveGame" by Lady GaGa. This song is pretty much epic.

Author's Note: Yum. More ShinoHina. Inspired by an adorable someone in my life. You gotta love those shy guys who have these moments of romantic brilliance. :)

Three Seconds by Mika Casey

Hold me and love me,

A tall boy sat hunched over on the crooked white porch steps that lead to the Aburame mansion. The sky was an abyss black, and the stars flickered like a million tiny candles. A smaller person was curled up in his lap, with midnight hair swirling in the wind as she cried on the taller figure's shoulder.

"Hina-chan..." The taller ninja whispered, turning his face slightly so his lips brushed against her ear. He could smell the rusty scent of her blood from a fresh wound.

She sniffled, shifting in his arms. "Shino-kun, I'm s-sorry you have to see me like t-this..." She buried her face into the crook between his neck and shoulder. He slowly drew in his breath, remembering what had just happened.

Hinata was sprawled out on the grass at the training grounds, bleeding from a gash in her stomach. Her father stood over her, barking insults and yowling about how inferior she was and how she would never be worth her title as a Hyuuga.

She shook, and slipped into unconsciousness when her father's voice vanished into a quick scream, then silence, and long arms had wrapped themselves around her and pulled her close to a warm chest.

And she had awoken here, in his arms. It was the one place she felt the safest. Sometimes, when she was having nightmares when out on missions, her half-sleeping conscious felt Shino wrap his arms around her, and she would settle and her nightmares were chased away.

She pulled away from his neck and looked into his sunglasses. Her eyes brimmed with tears and unspoken thanks.

Just want touch you for a minute.

Shino stared through his shades, momentarily unable to move. His heart yearned for so many things from her, things he didn't think he deserved. He was sure she needed so much more than him, and that he wouldn't be enough to fill her soul with the acceptance that she was seeking.

Oh, how he was wrong.

Just once. He urged himself. You'll never know, unless... Unless what? Unless he followed through, and she hated him forever? Unless he followed through...

And their friendship was lost?

Tears slipped past her lilac eyes, flowing like streams down her porcelain cheeks. She shivered in the cold air, and her lips parted slightly. No words came out, just a whimper as she tried to hold back her sobs.

He couldn't stand it. Just once...

He one hand up from the small of her back so both his hands could grasp her face. His long fingers covered half of her face, but didn't grip too tight and make her uncomfortable. His touch was like that of a lover.

A friend, a lover, a home...who was he really?

He brought his face close to hers, closing his eyes and tilting his head to the side.

He pressed his open mouth against hers. Only three seconds of my selfishness, Hina-chan... He promised her in his thoughts.

One... She didn't move. Her tears stopped flowing, and her eyes flew open.

The wind shivered through their hair. Two... She brought her own hands up to cover his, holding to them like she wasn't going to let him go.

Shino's heart plummeted when the last second was counted off in his mind. Three...

But he didn't stop. He couldn't, because Hinata was deepening the kiss, leaning into him and kissing him back with all her passion. She had caught fire from his touch, and didn't want to let it die.

Three seconds melted into forever.

Baby, three seconds is enough for my heart to quit it.
