NOTES: So a while ago I wrote this story that sucked, like actually, truely sucked. The biggest reason for that was that I was trying to write it in a stlye that I saw in alot of other fanfics and it just wasn't one that I could do, which I eventually realised and so stopped writing it. Four years later, I've come back to it for the following reasons;
1) (Least importantly) I wanted to re-write this thing when I had developed my skills more and become comfortable and confident with my own style. I think I'm finally ready.
2) I want to see it to the end. I brought this writhing monster into the world, I'm going to see it through to it's death.
3) Although I was tempted to delete the original, I decided to keep it below the updated version as a reminder to myslef that I have imporved.
4) (And most importantly) Someone by the name of Momotaros Hawking followed this trainwreck story as it originaly was. Whether that was intentional or by accident (probably the latter) it made me realise that just becuase I have'nt touched this shitshow on almost four years, doesn't mean that other people haven't. And those people deserve something decent.
All that being said, this still isn't all that great becuase I can't remeber where I was going with it exactly and I have't listened to the song in ages. I'm also quite busy with A-levels so I'm a little...funky...when it comes to writing. Enjoy (or don't) all the same.
The sound of a door slamming echoed through the all too quiet house, followed by thudding footsteps and the wheels of a suitcase dragging against the floor. Rin was excited to finally be back with her family after almost six months of no contact with them. She had been on a wilderness exploration that was meant to "cleanse the body and mind of all the poisons of modern, urban society". That had meant no internet, no phones, no electricity all together. It had been torture. Though her friends and family were all okay with losing contact with her for such a long period of time, it was still a relief to be back. Miku and Luka had been texting her and trying to call her ever since she left- over 100 missed messages and 60 missed calls- but she had wanted to get back to her family before she talked to anyone else.
Her excitement evaporated the moment she stepped through the front door. Looking around the hallway of her house, she immediately recognised that something was wrong; the place was a wreck, more so that when she had left. A vase was shattered on the floor and the place hadn't been dusted in what seemed like months. A chill ran through her as she let go of the handle of her suitcase and picked a shard of ceramic off of the ground, suddenly regretting her loud entrance.
"Mum? Dad? Len?" Her words mingled with the dust in the air, met with nothing but aching silence.
Straining her ears, she listened for any sound in the seemingly empty house. After a few painstaking moments, a soft sobbing reached her ears from deep within the house. It was her mother. Her feet began to move before she even began to consider all the possibilities. Flying up the stairs and down the corridor, she burst into her parent's bedroom, makeshift weapon still clutched in her hand.
The sight that greeted her was not what she expected.
Her mother was curled up on the floor, eyes red and face wet. Holding her from behind was her father, whispering in to her ear and clearly trying to calm her. In the corner of the room, stood Luka, looking somewhat stoic, one hand resting on Miku's shoulder who was sitting on the bed clearly startled. Beside her was Kaito, his face buried in his hands, the only one not to look up as she came into the room.
"Mama? What happened?" her voice filled with concern as she moved towards her mother. The tears on her face looked fresh, suggesting that she'd only started to cry.
Her father kissed her mother on the cheek before standing up and coming forward to embrace her. As his arms wrapped around her she realised that he was shaking too.
"Rin, darling, you need to sit down for a moment. It's-" he choked slightly, "it's Len"
The colour drained from her face and she could feel the air leave his lungs, terror beginning to set in. She laughed slightly, not knowing how else to respond. What could of happened to Len that caused this. She began to panic.
"Is he sick? Is he hurt? Oh god. Oh god! Is he-?"
"He's a goddamn murderer is what he is!"
Her tangled cluster of words was cut of by a harsh voice from the bed. Katio had finally looked up at from his hands; eyes red, mouth twisted into a snarl.
"He's a goddamn murderer and a terrorist, and he deserves to rot in whichever fucking cell they throw him in,"
There was a brief moment of shocked silence before a loud thump of Luka's fist connecting with the back of Kaito's head.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Her voice was low, deadly, "Coming out with that bullshit in front of his parents, in front of his sister,"
Kaito glowered before opening his mouth to make some type of retort.
"Besides" a small voice interjected, "You don't really believe that, do you?"
Miku started at him, eyes full of tears and knowing. Kaito stared back, intensely for only a few moments before his face crumbled, tears brimming over the edges of his eyes.
"No, but, what kind of person would I be if I didn't? If I don't?"
Luka reaching down to rub the part of his head she'd struck.
"We know you don't, this has been hard for all of us, we're all confused"
Rin's hear was pounding in her chest. Murderer? Terrorist?
"What's, what's going on?" she asked weakly, pulling away from her fathers embrace.
"Rin, sweetie," She looked over to see her mother was now standing, face still red and wet, "sit down like your father said, this- this isn't easy,"
Three accounts of murder. Fifteen accounts of assault. One account of terrorism. Minimum sentence: life in prison with no chance of parole until fifteen years served.
That's what her brother had been given. It had hit her so hard and sent her reeling; no sleep for two days, no food in three.
It didn't add up. She knew her brother, knew him better that she knew herself. There's no way he could of done it yet all reports said otherwise. But assault? Murder? Her brother had trouble opening a jar, there's no way he could kill someone. The reports said no known weapons used, did he have an accomplice? Did he train for the few months that she was gone? He'd always wanted to be a superhero. A superhero. One that helped people. Len didn't even kill the spiders that would crawl into their room, opting instead to catch them and put the outside, he couldn't have killed someone.
There was some mistake, there had to be. She was going to prove it.
The first three days had been spent processing everything, but know that she could think clearly again, she was ready to take action. Her brother was innocent, she knew it; she just had to prove it.
She was going to prove it.
NOTES: What the hell was that pie line about (In the old shitty version)? Anyway, I'm gonna try to update this regularly, probably every Sunday. Even if no one reads it, I feel that this is something I gotta do for myself. To this day, this is one of, if not the longest (continueous) thing I've ever written, and I am not okay with that. We'll see where it goes.
Old shitty version
A girl walked through the door dragging a suitcase behind her.
"Hey mum hey dad where's Len? I- HUH?!" she looked down at the sobbing mess that was her mother.
"Oh Rin darling, didn't you here Len's been sent to prison" her farther informed her, not looking up from his wife. Rin stared shocked at what she had just heard.
"P-prison but why?" Her mother stopped crying and looked at her.
"Because he's a no good murderer and terrorist that deserves to rot in a cell for the rest of his life" A harsh voice came from behind her. Her head whipped around to see KAITO standing in the hall way. Despite what he had just said, it was clear that he had just been crying. He sighed and looked at the floor as if to apologise for what he had just said. Rin forced a smile to make him feel better before walking to the front door.
"Rin honey. Where are you going?" Her mother called from behind her.
"Oh I'm just going out for some fresh air to help me take in what had happened" Her father nodded as if he understood what she was going to do but the truth was…he had no idea.
"Hey" a small voice came from behind her. It was Miku. "I'm sorry you had to find out what happened"
Rin shook her head "Miku I don't know what happened. Why would someone like Len do something like that?" she asked only really thinking about it for the first time. Len had always been a town superhero and she had been too before she left for boarding school what could have gone wrong in the space of two years that didn't in twelve. AND HOW COULD YOU TAKE A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD TO PRISON! That was ridiculous!
"Oh Rin he didn't mean to, or at least that's what I believe. He decided that trouble wasn't starting on the streets but in the government and that in order to take them down he would have to start here with the mayor and all of his team then keep moving around till he finally got to the government. He decided that a few lives where a worthy sacrifice for is cause and…and" Miku started crying and Rin couldn't blame her. Len had been her best friend and the one who helped her realise that she should be dating Luka and not just random people. Rin felt bad about the fact that she hadn't cried about her brother being taken to prison for doing the right thing (she knew for a fact that it was the right thing. HER BROTHER DID IT OF COURSE IT WAS!) But there was no time to cry because as Len always said that 'Justice never sleeps, cries of has time for day out'. No she had to think. She waved goodbye to Miku, a plan already forming in her mind. A plan to save her brother. But first some Pie.
