Just Say It
This is a oneshot of Julian between another female friend on the station, taking place during "Chrysalis". She wishes that he would just tell Ezri how he feels about her.
Miles' wife was holding dinner for him, and Odo and Kira wanted to have a night to themselves. It looked to be another night alone for Dr. Julian Bashir. Until...
"Hey Julian, what's up?" Lieutenant Sarah Adkins asked, walking up to the tall doctor.
"Not a lot, what about you?" he replied.
"Same here. Say, you want to hang out in my quarters? I have no place to be, and it looks as though you don't either," Adkins offered. Julian accepted, and they were off.
When they got to Adkins' quarters, she brought out a brown ball called a football. "It's used to play American football," she explained, and showed him how to grip it to throw a spiral pass. The female officer then told him to "let 'er rip".
Julian threw the ball as hard as he could. Sarah dove after it, making a particularly acrobatic catch sliding on the floor. She held it up, grinning.
"Wow, you've got quite an arm there," the lieutenant remarked, passing the ball back. They went back and forth a few times, chatting about this and that. Then Sarah finally spoke up about it.
"Have you talked to Ezri about how you feel about her?" she inquired, throwing the football to Julian.
"How do you know how I feel about her?" the doctor replied, passing it back.
"Come on, I see the way you look at her, and how nervous you get around her. I'd say you're totally smitten with her."
The young man stared at Adkins for a moment, holding the ball, "All right, maybe I am," he admitted, passing it back.
"Then why don't you go tell her? If you tell her, you have nothing to lose, and possibly so much to gain." Sarah passed the ball to her friend, who spun it in his large hands after receiving it.
"Except if she doesn't feel the same way," Bashir pointed out, grasping the brown, bean-shaped ball in a pointing gesture before throwing it back.
Adkins dove after the spheroid when it went slightly wide, "At least then you'll know, be able to move on with your life, and possibly find a woman that will appreciate you for the man you are. Heck, if I didn't know you the way I do, and I wasn't with Dave, I would gladly go out with you," the young lady admitted, passing it to her male companion.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Julian asked with a puzzled look on his face while passing the ball back.
"It means that I see you more as a brother than I would in a romantic light, no offense," Adkins explained. He told her that none was taken, and then asked how her Dave was doing. Sarah told the doctor that her beau was still on the Sutherland and very busy, but otherwise all right.
After their arms got tired, Sarah spoke up "Computer, what time is it?"
"The time is now 2200 hours," the machine stated.
"It's getting late. We ought to get to bed. I'll talk to you later, Julian," Adkins bade her friend the doctor farewell with a friendly pat on the shoulder.
"All right, have a good night," he replied, walking slowly to the door.
"Julian-" she called to her friend as he turned around, "Think about what I said, okay?"
"I will do that. Good night," Bashir replied, walking out the door to his quarters.
