I walked across the gate, my paws treading carefully on the wood. As the bird's chorus of dawn signaled the start of the new day, I glanced behind me, and saw my household. It was a bungalow with a small garden. I turned to look at the forest in front of me. It seemed like it stretched on for eternity. I was only seven months, and I never been into the woods, it looked too intimidating... too scary.
Feeling brave, I leapt off the fence and landed on the grass below my forest was right there, and it looked so dark. I tentatively tiptoed forwards until I reached a small stream bordering the forest and the neighbourhood I looked behind me, the housefolk's place seeming small and crowded.
As I crossed the rushing water, the forest seemed to envelope me in its huge green arms, making me feel disorientated. Within minutes of carefully tiptoeing from tree to tree, despite my best efforts I was hopelessly and utterly lost.
Lost.
The words seemed to echo in my head, rattling around my ears, and before I knew it, reached a small circular clearing densely populated with small and colourful flowers.
Frowning, I padded out towards clearing, the bushes behind me rustling, despite the fact there was no wind.
"I should climb a tree. I can see the whole forest from up there." I thought aloud, hearing a twig snap a few foxlengths behind me. I scanned the area around me, looking for tall, thick trees that I could sink my claws into. My eyes fixated upon a sturdy oak tree that looked easy to scale.
As I padded towards it, I froze. An unfamiliar scent made its way up my nose. It smelt of mud and the wilderness. I shrugged it off and made my way towards the base of the trunk.
A large mass suddenly bowled into me, sending me into the soft mud and foliage, its arms and legs pinning my limbs to the ground. I gasped as the air was knocked out of me, large paws squeezing around my throat. Blackness swirled my vision as I drifted into the realm of unconsciousness.
