When I wake up, the other side of my bed was freezing cold. I reach to the other side of the bed to feel the comforting warmth of Gale. Noone was there. He must have been getting breakfast. I sit up on my bed trying to forget last nights nightmares; innocent children running frantically, Prim being one of them, dying by the second to the capitol's nukes. Tears stream down my face as I realize what might have been the happiest point of my life is now a heaping pile of debris and dust. An inhabitable land of radiation.
If only I could prevent the cataclysm that broke me.
I hadn't noticed that Gale came in. "Katniss, are you ok?" he asks. As usual, I brush him off with a simple "Just nightmares." Although I may never be 'ok' ever again. He guides me out the door and we head over to the newly refurbished Hob. Ever since the bombing of District 12, the traders at the Hob fled into the forest, since they all knew how to take care of themselves. (Except a few whom died off.) We traded the game he caught for some bread. On the way back I ask him how he deals with the nightmares. "I just distract myself from reality."
We nibbled on the bread when I heard something overhead. I look up to find bombs dropping from the sky. "RUN!" I shout. We both run without looking back. At last, the bombs stop and I turn around to find the house we worked so hard on to be a chunk of smoldering ruin.
"You are too late! HAHA." Snow's voice booms. I go back to find a rose, the ones that president snow always wore. Suddenly everything connects in my mind. The capitol is still standing in its everlasting glory.
