A/N Right, so, I got an idea whilst talking to people after Angels Take Manhattan. So. Here we go!

SPOILERS ALERT! I mean, it didn't really air all that long ago haha.

Disclaimer: Not my characters, blah blah blah. There are some similarities to ZoeMehefin's fic Telling Brian. GO READ IT! IT'S AMAZING!

Brian lifted the watering can from the sink and went outside to the back garden to water the plants. It was beginning to get colder now; leaves were starting to change colour and fall from the trees and some of the flowers were beyond the help of some water.

Just as he was about to tip the can, a familiar face came showed itself through the door.

"Doctor!" he cried, setting it down and walking towards him with his arms spread open, "Good to see you! How long were you gone for then? It's been almost five months here. It's getting chilly! … Doctor? What's wrong?"

"There's uh, someone who'd like to talk to you. I'll just make some tea."

As the Doctor disappeared back inside, a woman stepped outside, a small smile on her lips, but it looked as if she had been crying recently.

He offered a grin as he led her over to the garden chairs.

"So, you're new. Are you a friend of Rory and Amy?"

The smile on her face grew strained at the mention of their names, and Brian felt his heart fill with dread

"Something happened. On the last trip they went on. And they can't come back."

She explained everything; the weeping angels, the jump, how everything was okay again until one got Rory again.

"She couldn't live without him, she wouldn't be able to. So she let it take her too. But they got to stay together till the end of their lives. They were together."

Tears were falling from Brian's eyes as he listened to the tale. He would never see his son or daughter-in-law again. They were dead. Technically, before him, even if they had lived to an old age.

"There is one more thing. Hopefully a little bit of happiness to give to you. I know that they never told you this, there was never really a good time to. They did have one child together. But when you're travelling in the TARDIS, things can get incredibly… difficult."

He looked up to her again, and now that they were closer, he noticed that she looked… almost familiar.

"A… a child?"

"They named her Melody Pond, but she tends to go by River Song now. She's married as well."

Brian stared at her, he couldn't believe it. He was a granddad? He had missed his granddaughters wedding?

"River?" came the Doctor's voice from inside, "Brian? I think I broke the kettle!"

His eyes widened as he heard the name. Her smile came back, wider than before.

"Hello granddad."

So… did you enjoy it?
