A Cheery Pair

Fran wandered out the back door from the kitchen. She sat down on a plastic crate that had been left behind the building, and sighed in frustration. What was so great about Maryl anyway? Sure, she was pretty and a genius…but from what she'd heard about her from Dom she seemed…cold. But of course Dominic was tripping all over her anyway. She rolled her eyes as the image of Dominic mooning over the woman's image from the security videos replayed in her head.
It's not like she actually thought she had a chance with him anyway. She was too far into the "Friend Zone" for anything to happen now.
"Fran?" She heard Theo's voice call from just inside.
"I'm out here!" She yelled back.
"I thought you were supposed to open the place up?" Theo asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Sorry, I got sidetracked. I needed to…"
"Think?" He asked.
"Yeah…" she sighed. "Do you think Maryl's that pretty?"
"Do you want me to lie or be honest?" Theo asked hesitantly.
"That's what I thought," Fran muttered as she stood up.
"If it helps I don't think he stands a chance," Theo told her honestly. He'd realized Fran had a thing for Dom a while back. If anyone knew the signs of unrequited love it was him.
She let out a bitter chuckle, "That does help a little."
"You're handling this way better than I would be. If it were Lily pursuing some male super genius I'm pretty sure I would be foaming at the mouth," He said as he patted Fran's shoulder.
"How do you do it?" Fran asked him.
"Do what?"
"Deal with Lily being so...obtuse?"
"I just try to be a friend, and NOT think about that particular problem," He said with a hopeless sigh of his own.
"Well, aren't we a cheery pair?" Fran asked with a shake of her head.
"The cheeriest," Theo said with a chuckle. "C'mon, I'll help you set up the dining area."
She nodded, and the two of them headed back inside. Fran grinned as they took the chairs off of the tables.
"What?" Theo asked her with a small grin of his own.
"We bond over the strangest things," She said with a light laugh.
Just something that randomly popped up in my head when I realized Theo and Fran have the exact same problem…
