"Cliff?" Jovi looked up from the game of 'Zeros and Ones'. It was her turn and it was evident that she could take the win, but instead she swiped an already grubby palm across the dirt in which they had drawn the grid, wiping the game out entirely. Though the symbols used were a little different now, the age-old game that had once been known as 'Noughts and Crosses' was still best played when etched into the ground.
"Hm?" Cliff looked up from where he sat, his legs open just as Jovi's were and the soles of his bare feet pressed up against hers, their game taking place in the diamond shaped gap between them.
"Prince kissed me last night." She immediately felt her cheeks burn; she'd been waiting all day for the right moment to tell him. Her stomach flipped waiting for her friend to laugh.
"Oh." Cliff Richard contemplated her statement for a moment, his eyes looking upwards and off to the side slightly as he pondered on a response. "How was it?"
Jovi opened her mouth and closed it again, not sure of the best way to describe the awkward bumping of heads that she and Prince had shared the night before. "S'there always that much slobber involved?"
Cliff smiled vaguely, "Your first ever kiss," he mused and then frowned, "But not Prince's." Jovi nodded slowly. "They get better." He assured her, "Just takes practise, s'all."
"So the more people I kiss, the better it'll get?" Jovi examined Cliff's response carefully, to which he concurred. "I suppose, the better the person is at kissing, the better I'll get, because they'll teach me…" she concluded, to which Cliff grinned widely in agreement. Jovi became silent in thought as she dug her fingernail into the ground, etching a nine squared grid into it and then placing a 'zero' digit into the middle. "Cliff?"
Cliff placed a 'one' digit into the top left corner and once again looked up with the same content expression as he'd had every time they'd started a new game.
"How many people have you kissed?"
"Hundreds," Cliff replied simply.
"So y'must be really good at it then?" Jovi pondered aloud.
"Yes." Cliff stated.
"Perhaps you could-"
"No." He interjected before she could suggest the idea.
"But…" Jovi pouted and crossed her arms over her chest, "How will I get better?"
Cliff wiggled his fingers into his pocket and removed a plastic tube; Jovi recognised it as his pink lipstick. Reaching over he took her hand in his and drew the lipstick across it, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth in concentration. Folding up her fingers into a fist he turned her clenched hand towards her and grinned. A bright pink pair of makeshift lips shone up at her.
"Practice on y'fifteen year old hand," He told her earnestly, "Not a twenty-nine year old gay man."
