Notes: For the sake of the story the tardis is in America. How it came to be there an why it is there will be explained in future chapters.
With a bittersweet smile he looks at his son who is sleeping peacefully in his care seat and his heart tightens in pain for what he is about to do. This was not a decision he had made on a selfish whim. It is something he never believed he would do when he became pregnant with his son. It is a decision that he knows will haunt him for years to come, but it is for the best.
He can't be the one who raises his son. He can't be the one who teaches his son right from wrong. He can't be there to witness the way in which his sons grows up and becomes a man. He has no real hope of ever keeping his son safe from the demon that killed his mom. A demon that still has a thing for anyone named Winchester or anyone associated with the name. He can't take the chance that the demon will take his son.
All he can do is keep a watchful eye on his son from a distance. He can only hold to the smallest hope that his son will one day understand why he left.
He has come to the one place that would surprise those who knew him. His destination of choice is a blue 1950's British police phone box. A phone box that holds so many memories and not all of them are good. Using his key, he opens the phone and walks inside. For a brief moment, he takes the time to remember all of the good times he has enjoyed in the Tardis.
Then he remembers why he is in the Tardis.
He places one final kiss on his sleeping son's forehead and places the car seat on the Tardis floor. Reaching into his pocket, he takes out the neatly folded sheets of paper and places it next to the car seat. He takes on final look at his son and commits all that he sees to memory.
Slowly he walks away from his son and try's to walk back out of the Tardis. As he reaches the Tardis doors he finds that they are looked and his key can't open the locked doors. He knows this is because the Tardis does not want him to leave. He can't stay in the Tardis. He desperately wants to stay with his ex-lover and there son but he can't. The demon will always find a way to kill the people he loves. He can't keep his own safe and give him the life he deserves. He knows that his ex-lover is more than capable of doing that.
Placing his hand on the surface of the Tardis doors, he asks; "Let me go."
For a few minutes, nothing happens. All he has is the silence and the sense that his ex-lover will be back soon. He can't be here when that happens. Instead of voicing his words and emotions he just lets the Tardis know, what he is feeling and thinking.. It is only with a small after thought that he hopes the Tardis can if she chooses to read his mid and feelings.
When the door of the Tardis opens, he only hesitates for a split second before he walks though the now open door.
