Chapter 1

April 20, 1912

Annabelle and Katlyn sat behind the counter in their dress shop, waiting for customers to come. They had been best friends since they both ended up working at the same restaurant when Annabelle came to New York, five years ago. Once the restaurant went out of business, they had decided to make a dress shop.

It had been a slow day, with hardly any customers. They really didn't know why. Maybe it was because of the Titanic disaster...they weren't sure.

Suddenly a man with dark brown hair walked in. The two women immediately recognized him. Who wouldn't? He was the famous Caledon Hockley...one of the survivors from Titanic.

"Katie!", Annabelle said. "Stop staring! It's rude...especially around someone as famous as Cal. Plus, he already has a fiancé. Rose Dewitt-Bukater, I think."

Katlyn rolled her eyes. "She died on Titanic, Annie. Don't you get it? Cal is now open. Everyone knows it."

"Not the people who don't give a shit," Annabelle muttered. "Anyways, he only marries rich people...not poor shop owners like us".Katlyn shrugged just as Cal walked up to the counter.

"Can we help you?" Katlyn asked. Annabelle rolled her eyes...Katlyn always had the biggest crush on Cal. Everyday, Annabelle had this huge list of reasons that she would never get to be with him, but Katlyn didn't listen. She was just stubborn, or so Annabelle thought.

Cal looked like he was deep in thought. He had placed something black on the table beside the counter and ran his fingers over it softly.

All of sudden his head snapped into Katlyn´s direction. "Excuse me. What did you say?"

Annabelle stiffled a laugh at the redness that had gotten into her friend´s face. But Katlyn acted calmer than she looked. Brushing a piece of string from her apron she replied: "Oh,...I just asked if we can help you."

Katlyn tried to look as usual but in fact she didn´t feel able to hide her nervousness. In front of her stood Caledon Hockley! She had never expected to meet him one day.

Cal picked up the black item of clothing and handed it over to her. "The sleeves and some other parts of it are torn badly."

Watching her friend examine the tuxedo Annabelle decided to go to the counter herself and show at least that she was willed to help. "If it is so highly damaged then you should maybe buy a new one. I could recommend some-" Sh stopped talking as Cal shook his head.

"Unfortunately it´s not that easy. This one is my favorite and I couldn´t bear the thought of not being able to wear it anymore."

"Of course we´ll repair that one for you", Katlyn said hastily. "I understand how important some things can be for someone."

Once again Annabelle felt annoyed of the other woman´s behaviour. "Good then. You can fetch it in three days. Until then we might be done with repairing it."

Cal smiled at her, but of course not without getting a jealous glare from Katlyn.

"Thank you. I´ll pay you another visit in three days then." With that he left the dress shop and two girls with mixed feelings about their first encounter.

A/N: So that's our first chapter of our first story! Yes, it was short, but it was supposed to be kind of like an introduction to the story. We hope you liked it, and please review!
