That Day…#1
There were times he wished he had never met these people. Times when he wished he was still spending his days drinking and his nights passed out in some unnamed motel. Times like these. He sat holding his head in his hands and rubbing his temples tying to displace the headache that was growing. Parker, Hardison and, much to his surprise, Eliot were standing before him with Sophie seated beside him on the sofa. They were all singing…"Happy Birthday dear Nate….Happy Birthday to you." The song came to an end and they all clapped. Parker shouted at him to make a wish. Eliot was telling him that he had baked the cake himself and Hardison was telling him to blow out the candles so that they could start eating.
Yes there were definitely times that he wished he had never met these people. Then there were times that he could not imagine his life without them. This was one of those, actually he thought, both of those times.

Sophie cursed herself for a fool. How could she have let herself be duped into it? She should have known better. She should have suspected that something was wrong. She had fallen headlong into the trap and there was no escaping it now. She had been conned by the young blonde woman who bounced along happily at her side. That day was the day Sophie Devereaux rode a roller-coaster.
That Day…#3
Sophie Devereaux was used to being the center of attention. She always looked like a million bucks; she always made sure she did. She was used to all eyes being on her when she entered a room, in fact it was her express intension to mostly be the center of attention. That day though was different. She was nervous and a little scared. She took the arm of the handsome young man beside her. He looked at her and smiled, his blue eyes shining bright. He was handsome and was dressed to the nines in a black tuxedo. He whispered to her that she should relax; this was going to be easy. She nodded to him and smiled a small nervous smile. Then the doors opened and she and the young man entered the room. Sophie usually scanned the room looking for her mark the minute she entered. This time, she knew where he was and only had eyes for him. The rest of the room forgotten in the moment she had waited for, for so many years. That day was a day she would never forget. That day he married her.
That Day…#4
It had been months. She needed to know why he had not come after her. She drew out the man, stealing something she knew IYS would have to retrieve. Sophie stopped and turned to face the man following her. She had wanted him to follow her. She had wanted to speak to him. She needed to know. He stopped when she turned, taken by surprise at her move. He was not who she wanted to see, he was not there. She looked at him and he could see disappointed tinge her features. Her eyes asked the question and he answered softly. Tears filled her eyes at his words. She knew that that day would be the last day she played this game. She knew that that day Sophie Devereaux would leave the world of grifting behind. Without him there was no reason to continue, that day Sophie Devereaux became an honest citizen. That was the day that James Sterling told her Nate Fords' child was dead and he no longer worked for IYS.
