The Fourth

"hurry up Vega! We have to find a good spot." Jade said as she walked ahead of Tori in a field at the park. It was Fourth of July and the park was littered with bodies, but Jade had staked the perfect spot for them. She did it the night before as she sat on that very spot trying to come up with something to do that day that could make this outing feel different from when they hung out with their friends.

Jade scanned the park and smiled finding her spot unoccupied. She knew it was perfect because she used to go there with her dad when she was younger and she would see people sit there and watch fireworks, and it was away from the sky-hogging crowd. She practically sprinted there, and spread the blanket she held in her arms. " Jade, you could help!" Tori said struggling behind her with a basket full of food.

" I did help," Jade said pointing at the blanket. " I picked the perfect spot, and I saved it."

Tori rolled her eyes and shook her head. " Who else is coming, this area is not good if the rest of them show up."

Jade shrugged and dropped down on to the blanket. "I didn't invite anyone else."

Tori looked around at her setting, a blanket, a picnic, a perfectly secluded spot where they could watch fireworks...or hook up without too many prying eyes. Tori gulped, and nodded. "Is this a date?"

"What gave it away?" Jade stated with a smirk. She sat closer to Tori as the sun's rays disappeared in the horizon, and twilight lingered. "Why didn't you ever tell me?

"You were with Beck." Tori retorted.

"What about when he and I broke up?"

"Which time? When you came to me and begged me to help you get him back?" She said ticking her fingers. "Or the time that you were trying to prove you didn't need him and went on some dates with Andre, then got back together with him because he couldn't live without you? Or..."

"Shut up Vega!" Jade stated in frustration.

"You were going to marry him!" Tori stated.

"Tori, " Jade said, "I was never going to marry him, that break up was bound to happen. I knew College was going to be when we parted. When he realized that there was so much more out there. I was so jealous of everyone because I didn't love him enough and I knew I didn't have a good hold on him..."

"Are you kidding me?" Tori stated and shook her head. "He tried to move on. You were there. All you had to do was sing and he was all yours."

"I wasn't singing that song for his benefit…" Jade said looking out across the field. IT was finally darkening it wouldn't be long before the main event.

"You weren't?" Tori asked in a whisper. Jade looked back at Tori. "I had a feeling…"

Tori trailed off because jade was focused on her lips a far off street lamp flickered on, and their eyes remained trained on each other. "You thought I was singing to you?"

"I know it's stupid." Tori said dropping her gaze.

Jade placed her hand under Tori's chin and lifted her gaze. "It's not…" she whispered and leaned forward.

That first moment where her lips touched Tori's lips, and explosion of color rang from the sky. Perfect… it was perfect. "Be my girlfriend" Jade whispered against Tori's lips. The other could only nod and pulled Jade closer as they made out under the light of Fireworks.

Happy FOURTH!
