Chapter 1: A Long And Brutal Story
I'm back. Again. And i'm probably gonna disappear immediately after this. Sorry, i've been dealing with a lot of personal shit, and that's why i haven't posted as much. I'll post this chapter, see what you guys think.
Chapter 1: A Long And Brutal Story
Percy's P.O.V.
I'm gonna tell you a story.
The story of how I was betrayed and cast out by those I loved. The story of how I found my light in the darkest of times. The story of how I truly went insane. The story of how my beautiful daughter was born. The story of how I was betrayed once again. The story of how I battled every Olympian and more. The story of how I finally redeemed myself to my family. This is story of how Perseus Jackson died.
Let's see, when did it all begin? A quiet tuesday morning, one that I would go through just as I would any normal day, until the shit hit the fan of course.
I walked out of my cabin, which I shared with only myself -Tyson was staying with Dad and the other Cyclopes in Atlantis- and zipped up my hoodie. It was cold that day, I don't remember what temperature, hot and cold ain't my specialty, but I remember it definitely wasn't hot.
It was one of those days at camp where you had absolutely nothing to do. No lessons, no chores and no friends. The rest of the seven were staying in New Rome -I hear Jason and Piper are expecting, I'll have to visit this afternoon and congratulate them- and my other friends were spread around.
Grover was out doing Lord of the Wild duties, Nico was in the Underworld, Thalia was with the hunt and as you heard earlier, Tyson was in Atlantis. So basically, the only friend I had in Camp today was my girlfriend of about two years, Annabeth Chase. Speaking of which, where is that wise girl?
I strolled past the big house, waving to Chiron as I did so. He was playing cards with Mr D, though I obviously didn't wave to him. Chiron waved back, picked up a card and placed it on the pile, and I heard Mr D's shout of frustration at losing. A chuckle escaped me as I heard Chiron boasting about his poker skills to a god.
I walked out behind the Big House and into the bush area behind it. This was just something I'd do, finding new paths every morning and taking a walk for maybe an hour or so. I'd never been in this direction before, so I thought I'd give it a try. The forest, even though it used to be cluttered with monsters and such, was very calming to me.
After the wars, the demigods started to really take force against the monsters nearby any Olympian-allied areas. Within weeks, you couldn't find a single menacing thing within ten miles of both Camp Jupiter and Half-Blood. I liked it that way, now we could go out to play Capture the Flag and run training exercises without fear of being gutted/impaled by a cyclops.
I trailed along through the bush and forest in my path, jumping over streams and climbing over fallen trees. After maybe a five minute hike, I reached a small clearing. It was quite beautiful actually. A small, quiet spring with a small waterfall and little woodland critters frisking around, going about their day. It was so peaceful that I just sat there for a moment, taking it all in.
"UH, YES!" I heard a female yell. Out here that could've been anything, a monster mimicking people to attract prey, some campers out having some fun, some other creature like a Nymph. Whichever one it was, I got curious, so I stood up and wandered towards the noise, a couple metres into the bush that surrounded the clearing.
I brushed aside the leaves and froze in my tracks. Yes, it was the second option I had previously stated, but it wasn't anyone I would've ever expected. I choked a sob, all my faith in what this wretched thing we call life could've given me, snuffed out with one sight.
Blonde curls, the kind that was familiar to me, the kind I loved, and knew just from looking at it. The blonde curls of my love, Annabeth, blended in with unfamiliar black hair, moving around in a way that I will only describe to you as erotic. That was the moment when it all started, and the dominoes began to fall into place. The war that you were raised through, molded from, and scarred by, all began with a single, unfaithful kiss.
I'm not gonna go through everything that was said that night, for two reasons: It would be far too vulgar and inappropriate for you, and you've seen me when I'm angry, for that I am sorry, but you need not another example of my anger. Just know that it was on a lesser scale than what you have seen, but still a pretty big outburst.
At the end of our little fight, I left Annabeth crying in the dirt, her new boy toy lying on the ground with a bloody nose and some broken ribs, and trudged angrily back to camp, a vengeful scowl on my face.
Chiron glanced at me with visible worry as I marched past the Big House, even asking if I was alright. At least I think he did, a lot of this period is nothing but a haze. I remember important bits clearly, but other's, not so much. Some campers greeted me, other's ignored me. Either way, I ignored them all, and when I got to my cabin, I ripped open the door and slammed it behind me.
There were some things spread across the room, which would make my objective all the more harder. Nevertheless, I had to do it. I grabbed a bag, small enough to carry around, and shoved most of my possessions inside it, leaving small things like a half-eaten bag of candy that I snuck in, socks which holes so big it made them unwearable, and the first Harry Potter, the only novel that she had ever gotten me to read. It was an ok book, not as good as some others, wink wink.
As well as that junk, I left behind something dear to me, the Minotaur horn, as a reminder to any future siblings of mine of what the Athena Spawn has done to me. I don't want this to be forgotten, I want her to remember, I want her to be scorned for what she did, and it was when I started wanting this, that I realised how far gone good old Percy Jackson was.
And so, I left it where I usually have it, hanging on the wall for all to see, and I left that cabin for a new life. Though I would return to that cabin many times in the future, this was the last instance where I would see it like I always did, like home.
You might think that I left with some sad goodbyes, receiving hugs from all my friends. However, you know what's happened, and if I had received hugs and goodbyes, maybe none of it ever would've happened. Still, the Fates chose for it to happen, and it meant that some messed up stuff had to happen first. Besides, if this never happened, you wouldn't be here right now, so we have them to thank for that.
There was a commotion by the Dining Pavilion, and a crowd was gathered. Actually, it looked more like a mob. They seemed to be angry at something. I walked up behind him, and everything that could've gone wrong for me then, did.
At the front of the crowd were Chiron, Annabeth and the guy she was with. My old teacher looked unsure about something, while Annabeth was livid, and the guy sat in the corner clutching his bloody nose.
"I don't know, Annabeth. This doesn't sound like him. Besides, isn't his fatal flaw loyalty?" Chiron asked, and Annabitch flailed her arms around in frustration. "Godsdamnit, Chiron, how many times do I have to tell you? We saw him! He even attacked Lucas for fucks sake! He admitted that he was going to destroy Olympus and then he tried to kill us! Come on Chiron. The campers believe us, why won't you?"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. That (As Greeks would say) Malaka was trying to turn the camp against me, and frame me for something I didn't do. And the bad thing was, they believed her, if the shouts of "Put his head on a pike!" and "Let's get him before he escapes!" were anything to go by.
I stepped back, planning to leave quietly and without the goodbyes I'd been hoping for, but Fate was obviously not on my side that day, and the first step back that I took…
Snap
Of course a twig would be the most dangerous thing in the surrounding area. Not the angry warriors all fully armed. A twig.
The people near the back turned around and saw me, immediately scowling. Me being me, I smiled at them. "Um, hi."
They did not find this amusing.
Next thing I know, I have dozens of angry demigods chasing me across a campsite, with Chiron refusing to join in, but not stopping them.
'Shit,' I thought to myself. 'I need to get to the gods. They can help me. But how?' I realised I had no way of communicating with them, as I had neither a drachma nor a rainbow. The only way I'd be able to get their attention is either by pure chance of them checking in or me going up to Olympus myself.
No, the Empire State Building was too far away, and the campers would chuck a spear into my back or tackle and behead me long before I can reach it. Even if I did reach the building, the campers would likely chase me in the van and corner me in the elevator. My only option would be to just go straight up, but unfortunately, I'm a son of Poseidon, I can't fly.
Fly.
Now wait just a goddamn minute, partner.
"BLACKJACK!" I screamed, and just over the hill I could see my loyal friend peak his head out of the stables. "What's up, boss?" I heard him ask in Horse-language. "GET READY BUD, WE'RE GOING FOR A RIDE!" I shouted, and he nodded, still pretty far away. I cursed under my breath, realising I'd have to unlock the stables and get him out, but Blackjack, the bro he is, just straight up burst through the fence and neighed.
I took that neigh as meaning hop on, and followed that order. A pilum flew over my shoulder and hit the ground three feet away. Wasting no time in jumping on Blackjack, I told him quickly what our destination was and he kicked off the ground, flying fast towards the clouds.
Arrows soared past me and Blackjack dodged out of the way from most of them. One narrowly missed, and I heard the frustrated yells of Will Solace from below.
So it truly is everyone at camp.
Blackjack continued to swerve around, and I could briefly see the Empire State Building coming up. We'd be there in a couple of minutes. By now, we were out of shooting range, so Blackjack began to relax.
My thoughts wandered as we neared Olympus, and I started thinking back on all I had been through, some of which I'd been through with a few campers that had been attacking me about a minute ago. I got so lost in my thoughts that I almost didn't notice the lightning bolt headed my way.
Zeus
Where was I when all of this was going down? Well i was sitting in my little spot i had set up beside the edge of Olympus. I had a cup of wine that never remained empty, naiads feeding me various fruits, and an astounding view of the mortal world, plus a view of quite a few women that I may just have to speak with later.
I also had a clear view of something small headed my way. A black spec seemed to be heading towards my kingdom, and as it got closer I realised it was some sort of flying creature.
Oh no way was I gonna let Olympus be invaded, not today. I stood up drunkenly, almost tipping off the edge, and the naiads backed away. I looked to my faithful cup-bearer. "GANYMEDE, fetch my bolt will you. I might have some target practice." I let out a bellowing laugh, and the naiads giggled flirtatiously.
Ganymede bowed, and ran off, returning in 30 seconds with a javelin type object, silver in colour. He bowed, and presented the bolt to me. The second I touched it, electricity sparked to life, and my black beard flew in the wind emitting from the dangerous weapon. I grinned, and turned towards the creature.
I raised my bolt, and took aim, swaying due to my drunkenness. With a mighty yell, I thrust the bolt at the opposing force. I smirked as I saw that it would hit it's target, but it faltered when the thing dived out of the way at the last second.
I frowned, and summoned my bolt back. "Warning shot." I assured the giggling naiads, and took aim once more. I threw it, but thanks to the many cups of wine i had consumed, it sorta just dropped out of my weak arm.
"Shit, musta tripped." The naiads giggled even more at the shape. It started shouting something like "ANKAR!" Maybe a war cry? Oh well, didn't scare me.
I summoned my bolt back and once more took aim. I kept myself still, held my breath, and fired. I saw it heading directly towards its target, and turned and walked away as if i was getting a strike in bowling. Yes, I have played that. The Olympians do game nights too.
I heard Ganymede call me nervously. "Uh… sire?" I rolled my eyes, thinking i had somehow missed again. That was until i heard the creature shout again. This time I could make out what it was saying. "UNCLE!"
Oh shit.
Three things that tipped me off to this person's identity.
I let very few people call me that.
I only have two that own a flying creature
One of them's dead.
I turned around and ran towards the edge, afraid of what many of my siblings would do to me if i hurt him. "Shit! Nephew!" I looked over, and saw Perseus didn't really have time to dodge, so I quickly summoned my bolt back.
Percy
I braced for the impact of the bolt, praying that even if i died then Blackjack would get away with only minor injuries.
Then the bolt disappeared, I open my squinted eyes and let out a sigh of relief, finally making it to the edge of Olympus. My pegasi landed a bit roughly, likely in shock from almost dying, and I promptly got off of him.
My uncle rushed over to me, physically drunk but not mentally. "Nephew! Are you alright? What the hell are doing here? What were you thinking?" He checked to make sure his bolt hadn't scraped me, and I turned and threw up in the cup he left sitting beside his lawn chair.
The god winced, but didn't bring it up, while his butler person sighed and went to replace it. I gasped, and managed to choke out. "Not now… need dad…"
Zeus understood, and led me to the throne room. He called Poseidon, and my father flashed in a few seconds later, fixing up his belt with a disgruntled look on his face. His look turned to one of concern. "Percy, my boy. What's wrong?"
I was still breathing heavily, and managed to get out "Camp…" This made Zeus panic. "The camp is in trouble?! I'll call the council. Before I could even say no, five of the Olympians had flashed in, so I sorta just had to let it happen.
My father helped me calm down, and once all the gods had arrived, he sat down in his throne.
"Now Perseus…" My uncle began. "What was so important that you had to come flying up to Olympus on a pegasus, risking your life in doing so?" The other Olympians who weren't informed of the story had visible confusion etched on their faces.
I licked my lips nervously. "Well Uncle, Camp is trying to kill me now."
The Olympians jaws all dropped, and my father's eyes glowed a violent sea-green. "WHAT THE FUCK! WHY WOULD THOSE BRATS EVER DO SUCH A THING?" The god of the sea roared like a tidal wave crashing down upon a beach. I noticed most of the dogs a bit peeved at Poseidon calling their kids brats.
I shuffled around nervously, glancing towards the goddess of wisdom. "Well… um… Annabeth… may have lied about me turning evil…" I said, smiling nervously at Athena.
The goddess of wisdom was not happy with my statement.
"WHAT? How could you say that, Perseus? My daughter would never do such a thing!" She summoned her spear, and pointed it at me threateningly. Poseidon raised his trident at her. "Back off, nerd." He muttered to her, and she glared at him.
"Why should I? He's telling lies about my daughter. He's probably just jealous of her because she's the only reason he made it out of Tartarus alive!" She didn't stop pointing her spear at me. I grew nervous, while my father grew more angry.
"My son would never do that. Why would he betray anyone, let alone his girlfriend. His fatal flaw is loyalty, for fuck's sake! Percy is innocent!" He insisted angrily, and Athena went to make another snide remark, but was beaten to it.
"He's right you know."
We all looked over at the half-awake Dod of Wine.
I'll see how this does, and probably start on chapter two tomorrow night.
