Your name is Karkat Vantas and you are 5 years old. You have just finished your first day at P2, and you have decided that everyone is a big baby. You hate all the crying and the screaming, but you especially hate the grown ups whom talk to you as if you can't understand them. You decide then and there, that just because you have to go back, doesn't mean you'll like it.
You have gotten back from your second day of P2, and it is the same as yesterday with only one difference. You have met someone who isn't a big baby like everyone else and you have decided that he will be your best friend forever and ever. His name is Gamzee Makara, and he wasn't there yesterday because his daddy was busy. You think that because of Gamzee, P2 won't be so bad after all. Not that you'll let anyone know.

Your name is still Karkat Vantas and you are now 10 years old. You are now in P7, and you still hate the majority of your peers. Gamzee Makara is still your best friend, but your little duo has now been extended to include a third, a Tavros Nitram whom Gamzee has confided in you that he may or may not like more than what is acceptable amongst people of their gender. Frankly, you don't give a damn. Romance and feelings aren't your area of expertise, and you tell Gamzee as such one day when he is crying to you about Tavros and the unrequited love he harbours for the other; it works for from that day on, Gamzee stops talking about him.
It is only later on that you find out that Gamzee had confessed to Tavros whom had rejected him. It is only much later that you wish that you could have listened and been more sympathetic to your friend . Gamzee for all his faults, is the one person you can rely on and despite however much you insult him, he knows that you don't mean it. You still treasure Gamzee as a friend even though you never explicitly state the words out loud. It is only much, much later on that you realise you never told Gamzee that he was your best friend.

At 16 years of age, you are all alone. You are surrounded by people, but none of them understand you the way he did. None of them are able to even begin to comprehend the unfathomable closeness the two of you shared. It has now been exactly one year since you've lost your best friend, and you feel the rift in your heart split even further instead of healing like the doctor had promised.
You suppose it is a twisted sort of karma, that the cheerful person you met and befriended at age 5 has changed so much. Too many good things lead to something bad to balance things out. No longer the arbitrary young man with a penchant for enjoying life slowly (with or without drugs), Gamzee had snapped. The cause of the flipout is unknown, but you will always remember how they dragged Gamzee away 5 days after you turned 15, hiding in the sewer systems, face bathed in blood and eyes those of a wild animal.

Your name is Karkat Vantas, and you are in love with your best friend Gamzee Makara. But it doesn't matter, because Gamzee is gone and you'll never get the chance to tell him how you feel.
