Enigma
Disclaimer: I really don't own anything. If I did, you can bet I'd be a lot richer, judging from how popular the series is.
She can't understand why he's still there.
Every day he's there again, on that same spot at the fridge, his mouth stuffed. He's been at the same spot every day for the last seven years.
And she doesn't understand anymore.
He was supposed to hate her, hate her for what she was; a half vampire. At the very least, he was supposed to be disgusted at the way she smelled.
Sometimes, when he had school, he'd be gone, and a strange, hollow feeling would develop inside of her, and she would panic, only to have that void filled when he came back, hours later. And she can't comprehend it, for all of her intellect.
She wonders why he's still there, after so long, even with his whole, neverending life in front of him. And she wonders why she wanted him to stay so much, that her heart broke when he wasn't there.
She'd notice the strangest things.
Like the way they seemed to fit so perfectly against each other when he held her, or the way her name to roll off so naturally off his tongue , the way the endearment "Nessie" could mean so much when it came from him…
Things are changing, she'd tell herself. Her body was changing and she'd be bound to react that way to simple things like that; like the rough way he'd move, the way his eyes danced when he laughed, the way they lit up when they caught sight of her.
But she knew it was different. It wasn't like that, in any way. And she'd be scared. After all, depending on the way one would look at it, she was really only technically seven. It wasn't supposed to happen that early.
But she also knows that he'd still be there, every day, waiting for her. But she couldn't help but wonder what would happen if, one day, he didn't come back.
And deep down, she knew that it would hurt her more than anything else in the world.
She wonders what he thinks of her.
Did he still look at her the same way after seven years, as a child meant to be protected, or did things change, so that he'd see that she was no longer a child physically, slowly, bit by bit?
What exactly was going on in his mind whenever she caught him watching her, a slow smile playing at his lips?
What exactly was going on when her father turned to him sharply, a frown at his lips, yet a hint of resignment in his eyes, then turn to her, watching, ever watching?
Something's changed, after six years. And it's the one thing that she can't comprehend, the one thing in this supernatural world that came so easily to her. He's the one person, aside from her parents, of course, that meant more than the entire universe to her.
And she doesn't understand anymore.
But then again, she has forever to figure it out. She has all the time in the world to figure out the enigma that is Jacob Black.
Because that's exactly how long he'd stay with her.
That one thing, at least, she knew.
A/N: This is actually my first Twilight fanfic. So...I'm a tiny bit nervous. Review and tell me what you think, please? I need feedback!
