I'm just gonna say that in the Author's note at the end of the Chapter is the meaning of his name. But I recommend reading the chapter first or else it'll be a huge spoiler! Seriously, don't read it before reading the Chapter! You've been warned!
Prologue
Thirío stared up at the dark night sky from the side of the lake that was in front of him. The stars shimmered like a thousand lights over his head, and he wished he could be one of them. He wanted to be what they were.
Free.
Most people who heard his name would say he was a spirit that could not be tamed, forever free, never following the rules of anyone, not even the Creator himself.
But the truth was, Thirío wasn't free, he wasn't free at all. He was locked up in his own head, in his memories.
Drowning in misery.
And that's the way it was. It wouldn't change.
In a way, Thirío didn't want it to change either. Yes, he wanted to be free, free from his memories.
But at the same time, he craved the darkness, the thrill of breaking the rules and getting away with it. He loved the way his victim's eyes would fill with fear. The way their voice would shake if they figured out he was there. Or the way their body would stop moving and their eyes would go blank when he killed them.
He loved it all.
No matter how much of a psychopath he sounded like, he wasn't evil. Because Thirío only killed the bad guys; the evil leaders, murderers, thieves and all around the crazy people who were a danger to others.
He knew the people of the planets were grateful for what he did, he wouldn't have gotten the nickname, "the savior" if they weren't. However, The Creator he wasn't so sure about. Over the 190 years he'd been in his business there had been times where The Creator had come close to catching him, four times actually, but he never did, and that was something Thirío was very proud of.
Thirío looked down on the dark lake and saw the moonlight dance across it. He looked at himself in the water mirror, his dark 17 feet (from tip to tip) long raven-like wings bent majestically by his sides, almost like a bird, then he looked into his face.
Emotionless.
His face was a mask of stone, never to be broken. He couldn't remember last time he'd actually smiled in happiness.
Over the 200 years he'd been outside of Earth he'd changed, his frame was a lot bigger, a lot more muscly, and his height had gone from 6,1 to 6,5.
His face had become a lot more defined too, his jaw as sharp as a knife.
The only thing that had stayed the same was his hair, still as messy as ever.
But the thing about him that had changed the most was his eyes, he remember them from his time on Earth, they had been so light, full of happiness. Now they had darkened, almost like the storms underwater. He took note of the dark specks of blood red swimming in his eyes, one of the effects of the curse.
He thought back to the day he was bitten by a daímōnas, or Demon, as they're most known as.
Percy was creeped out, he was walking through the woods at midnight on the planet Volkés, or Planet of Evil, as it's also called. It was the planet where every criminal on the run would go. Almost like the evil's base.
He was beginning to feel stupid for the sudden urge he'd had to go exploring this planet just a couple of hours ago. He'd been in the universe for 6 years already, but never in all that time had he been stupid enough to wander into Volkés, he was supposed to be 25 years now, but some times he still felt like the teenager he was on Earth, stupid with a head full of kelp.
A sudden sound to his left broke him out of his thoughts and made him freeze on the spot, it sounded like a growl from a wolf.
This day couldn't get worse than this, attacked in the middle of the woods by an animal without any weapons, just my luck, he thought.
He'd given up on Anaklusmos the day he left Earth, he'd wanted to forget about what happened, and to do that he had to get rid of the thing that connected him to them.
The only thing he'd kept was a picture of him, Nico and Thalia, the only mortal greeks that hadn't betrayed him because of fear of what he could do.
He didn't have his other weapons either, he'd lost them in another part of the woods a couple of hours ago.
He turned to the sound, but what he saw was definitely not a wolf.
It looked human, or at least, a little human. It looked like a male with its physique and the thing was definitely muscular. It had blood red eyes, wild black hair with a red stripe on the left side of its face. Looking downwards the male thing only had ripped black shorts on that looked years old. The thing had claws on its hands and feet, black cat like claws. He looked at the dark silhouette behind it and saw it had wings. 15 feet long wings folded elegantly behind its back. To top it all it had a tail, a black mouse like tail that was at least 6 feat long, swaying gracefully from left to right.
The thing opened its mouth to bare its teeth and what Percy saw made it even more scary, they looked human, only, two of its side teeth were fangs, almost like a vampire's.
Faster than he could react, and that's fast, the thing had lunged at him, he moved his arms to protect his throat and head, but what the thing did shocked him, it bit him in the forearm instead of going for his throat. Percy knew it could have killed him, he had his throat bare.
It had moved backwards, but what it did was even more shocking, it grinned a devil-like smile, turned and opened its wings and with one big flap it was off into the night sky.
Percy didn't have time to think over what had happened because a fire in his back made him yell out and drop to his hands and knees. It was like being burned by the sun if you went too near. He started gasping for air, it felt like he was suffocating, he couldn't breathe. And then he heard a sound that sounded much like bones breaking, the new kind of pain made him scream out once more. It felt like his back was getting teared apart to make place for something new.
Just when he thought he was gonna pass out from the pain and exhaustion it stopped. He just laid there but he felt weird. Like he'd gotten more limbs on his body.
Percy laid his head to the side, but what he saw almost made him jump out of his skin, it was a wing, a big black wing from what he saw, it laid spread out 8,5 feet from where he was laying and out to the side. He looked to the other side and surely, there laid a second wing, just as big as the first one.
He tried to stand, but fell on his face when he took his hands from the ground.
He waited a few seconds more before he tried again, and this time he made it. He swayed a little when he tried to walk but other than that he felt fine. A little breathless but nothing else.
The sound of running water made him stop his inspection, it wasn't just the water he could hear anymore, he could hear the sound of a mouse under the ground, the flapping of small wings in the sky followed by the sound of a bird's chirping.
He focused closer on his other senses and he couldn't believed what he saw, and smelt. He could see the bird in the sky, it was a robin. He could see the robin.
The weirdest thing was that he could smell it too. It smelt like raw meat and, was it strawberries? He couldn't tell.
He looked at himself once more and just hoped he wouldn't turn into the thing that'd attacked him.
After "the shift" as he calls it, he luckily, didn't grow a tail, he didn't go crazy either. However, he did find out he had fangs like the Demon had, he also had claws, the same as the Demon's, they worked like a cats, they could retract, the same with the fangs and the wings. However, he didn't like doing it with the wings, it was painful, very painful, he knew that if it wasn't for him getting used to the pain every time he did it he would have screamed every time, now he just grunted.
He also found out his senses could work up to 0,1 miles radius. His healing abilities had also doubled with a hundred. The most fatal wound you could get only needed 5 minutes to heal, and then he was as good as new.
He'd gotten faster and stronger too, he could move in lightning-speed, fast enough to catch a bullet. However, he couldn't run at lightning speed if he had his wings out, they were simply too heavy, luckily he could fly very fast, not lightning speed, but still fast.
He'd also gotten another ability, the ability to control and manipulate shadows. He could do a lot of different things too, like shadowtraveling, the only thing different was that he could shadowtravel anywhere, he'd turn into a shadow, then disappear, just to reappear where he wanted. He could also camouflage his location from anyone, even Chaos.
The only downside with these new abilities was the Bloodlust and the fact that he lost his water abilities the moment he went through "the shift".
The Bloodlust was the worst, he could still eat other kind of food so he didn't turn into a vampire at least, but he still had to drink blood, so to solve the problem he usually drank the blood of his victims.
He turned his head up to the sky again and thought of how he ended up here, outside of Earth.
They were afraid.
They were afraid he would turn on them after what Annabeth had told them she'd seen him do under their time in Tartarus, the time he'd almost killed Akhlys with her own poison. Zeus, of course, thought he would turn on them and try to overthrow the Gods.
He was then sentenced to death with only 5 people who voted against, Nico, Thalia, Hesta, Hades and his father, Poseidon.
The Romans weren't there, neither were Piper, Jason or Leo, he doubted anyone of them even knew what was happening or what was gonna happen. At the time he was happy, he didn't want any more people looking at him with unease, disgust or even worse, fear.
They were going to kill him the next day to give him time with his loved ones, Annabeth had come to him and begged him to understand, she wanted him to understand why she'd done it, that she'd done it because he was dangerous and she couldn't let him walk around camp anymore than he had.
To him it was complete bullshit, he hadn't done anything wrong in the past two months he'd been in camp, the only thing he'd done differently was waking up screaming at night because of nightmares, and he hadn't been in his best of moods, but could they blame him? He'd just been through hell, literally. He needed time to heal, time they couldn't give him.
He didn't want to yell at her so he just ignored her, she kept nagging him until he couldn't take it anymore. He yelled 'Get out!' at her, and she did.
Later that day Nico and Thalia had come to the cell in Camp Half Blood the Gods had put him in. They'd cried that they were sorry, that they didn't know what to do without him, and he'd told them to be strong, to live their lives, and forget about him. They said they'd never forget him, and then they'd had to leave. They didn't get more time with him.
He was alone for hours until he heard the door to the outside open, he looked up and saw his father walk through his door. He looked up to the window and saw it was dark outside, he didn't know what his father was doing here at the time of day, or night.
His father had told him he was getting him out of there, that he needed to run. He had then opened his cell, taken a hold of his arm and flashed him to the outside of camp, he'd told Percy he was going to miss him and told him to never take contact again. He'd then told him to run.
And he did.
He was on the run for nearly two years before he found a way off the planet, he'd heard rumors here and there that it existed other planets outside of Earth, other planets he could live on. He laid low most of the time because Zeus had sent the hunters after him, and Thalia was a part of them. He didn't want to fight any of them, but most of all, he didn't want to fight her.
He had barely gotten on the Space Bus without getting caught. If it wasn't for the fact that the hunters didn't know that it even existed something like a Space Bus he wouldn't have made it.
With the Space Bus he'd gotten out of Earth and into an other planet he couldn't remember the name of, and from there on he'd explored a lot of planets before he got bitten, he trained to control his new powers and to control the Bloodlust for 4 years before he'd taken down his first victim, a serial killer that had been on the run for months. He'd slit his throat with his claws.
At the time he didn't know he had to drink blood once a month to keep the bloodthirst under control, so when he smelt the blood he couldn't control himself and he'd drank straight from his neck. After the first time, he'd done it once a week to get complete control of it after the four years he'd gone without drinking any blood.
After that he figured he'd need something to hide his face with, so he'd gotten a hoodie, the hoodie was cursed to make him able to hide his face, the opening for his face was completely dark, all the time, no matter how light it was outside. It was also cursed to make it able for his wings to retract through the back, it wouldn't tear, neither would it disappear, his wings would just go straight through. He used that hoodie every day, no matter what.
Since no one had ever seen his face or talked to him they hadn't known what to call him, so they'd just called him "the savior" or "the hooded one" or even, "the angel of darkness" from the people's he'd saved description of him. The only thing anyone knew about him was that he used a hoodie and on every one of his kills he left a black feather, a feather from his wings.
So they'd called him that for 40 years before he'd gotten asked what his name was by a little 7 year old girl he'd just saved. He'd paused before answering, he hadn't told anyone his name in 40 years, not since he met the Bus Driver of the Space Bus 40 years ago.
In that moment before answering there had been a thousand thoughts going around in his head, he didn't want to go by Percy anymore, he wanted a new beginning, a beginning where no one could track him back to the old him.
He'd wanted a name with meaning, something that defined who and what he was, so he'd answered the little girl;
"Thirío, my name is Thirío."
Without waiting for her to answer he'd spread his majestic wings and taken off into the sky, leaving the little girl on the side of the street with the sound of police sirens in the distance.
The next day on the news it was an interview of the little girl, where she described what had happened and how Thirío had saved her. The reporters had asked her who she meant and she'd answered;
"The hooded one, of course."
They had been so delighted by finally getting a name that it looked like they were gonna jump for joy. The reporter lady had turned to the camera while smiling and said;
"Well it looks like we've finally got a name, Ladies and Gentlemen."
After that more and more people had called him "Thirío, our savior" and "Thirío, the hooded one" or just "Thirío". The point was, everyone knew who he was, he was one of the most famous celebrities except Chaos.
Hell, he rivaled Chaos' army's popularity, and they'd been around for over a thousand years. At the time he'd only been for 40 years.
However, Thirío found it annoying, he found it annoying how the news people would basically try to stalk him with every track they got, was it a feather(something he left every time) or a blood spot or even a hair strand, they'd try, but they never succeeded, he doubted they ever could. Chaos had tried to catch him for 170 years, from the day of the mass murder, Chaos got even more persistent on finding him after learning his name 160 years ago, and if Chaos, the Creator of the Universe couldn't do it, he doubted some reporters could do it.
After all, Thirío holds the universe's record on how long to hide from the Creator, the man that last held the record had only been able to hide for 5 years, Thirío has been hiding for 170, big difference.
He looked down a himself in the water mirror one last time, before spreading his wings and taking off into the night sky.
READ NOTE! IMPORTANT FOR STORYLINE UNDERSTANDING!
I'm just gonna clear the things with the years and what is when.
All right, let's start with the beginning.
- So he was at CHB for 2 months after the 2nd Giant War when the betrayal happened, then he stayed in hiding on Earth for a year and 10 months before he left. Which makes him 19 when he left Earth. So that's 2 years.
- Then he explored the universe for 6 years before the Demon attack on Volkés, which makes him 25 years.
- Then he stayed on Volkés for 4 years to learn control of his new powers and the bloodlust that followed. Which would then make him 29, but he stopped aging at 25(Demon attack).
- Then he became an assassin after those 4 years, and has been for 190 years, and then it would be the time we're in.
All in all Thirío(Percy) is 219 years old.
If your wondering what his wings look like it's the wings on the cover, just bigger. And the base of the wings(where they sprout out from the back) are also thicker.
Also you're probably wondering why he chose Thirío as his name, well it's because in Ancient Greek Thirío means "beast" or "animal", and he thinks of himself as a beast.(He kinda is, too.)
